This event will feature an overall pen of bulls at least as tough as what we saw in Tulsa last week, where riders only managed to get 26 percent of them ridden. There is no ABBI Classic here, so the first round bulls are all veterans and there are not a lot of matchups that look favorable for the riders.
Round 1 Matchups:
Austin Meier on 08 DeWalt Guaranteed
Tough:
This bull was formerly known as Ranger Red, and he's been a high
difficulty/low points kind of bull his entire career. Meier is the
only lefty who has ever ridden him, and he barely got it done,
scoring only 82.25 points with a 43.5-point bull score. Despite
being a cute little spinning bull, Tough has only been ridden 5
times in 48 career outs. He has just enough forward movement in the
spin to make him difficult to ride.
Harve Stewart on +2/7 Red Man:
This is one of the nicest to ride bulls in the PBR, and he's
typically worth a lot of points as well. He's a lower flying
version of RMEF Gunpowder & Lead. He bucks with a lot of action
and good timing, and the riders all get along with him. Great draw
for Stewart.
L.J. Jenkins on TD2 Bucking Machine:
Bucking Machine may be the best draw in the pen everywhere he
goes. He's not going to overpower anyone, but he does make it easy
for guys to fall off. When they open the gate he is going to spin
to the left, and never, ever let up. In fact, he appears to get
faster the longer someone stays on him. Left-handed guys have had
more success on him, and Jenkins has tried him twice this year with
no success, but really every guy here is capable of earning a big
score on him if they can keep up.
Renato Nunes on 77 Scout:
Chase Outlaw won the first round on this outstanding bull last
week in Tulsa. If Nunes can do the same, he'll be looking at Jeff
Robinson's Delco in the short round - a bull he's had two big rides
on already this season.
Stormy Wing on 704 Pawnbroker:
Only three outs on record for Pawnbroker, but he's had good bull
scores in all of them. J.B. Mauney was 85.5 on him in Tulsa, and
could have potentially been more. The bull scored 43.25. Typically
riders can be a little more than double the bull score on any given
ride, or a little less if they get out of shape.
Kody Lostroh on 620 Blonde Bomber:
Blonde Bomber is ridden just about every time he faces an elite
level rider, and the last four times he's appeared at a Built Ford
Tough Series event he's been ridden for scores of 88 or more points
and over $12,000 total in winnings.
Luke Snyder on 702 White Velvet:
White Velvet is always one of the better bulls in the draw. He's a
lot like L.J. Jenkins' bull Bucking Machine in that his best weapon
is relentlessness. Once he gets into the spin, if the rider falls
behind even a tiny bit he won't allow them to catch up. His
difficulty factor, intensity and scoring potential are all a little
less than what Bucking Machine offers.
Robson Palermo on 64S Flirting With
Disaster:
Left-handed riders make the whistle on this bull most of the time,
and for an average score of around 87 points. I haven't studied
this bull very closely, but his bull scores indicate he may
occasionally start strong and finish weak. Bulls that have higher
scores on quick buckoffs often have a big moves before they settle
into a less difficult spin, or it may be that they have changed
deliveries several times and have different trips depending on
delivery. The numbers say the first 4 seconds will be the difficult
part. If Palermo makes it to the halfway point, he's probably
getting a score.
Silvano Alves on 630 Oklahoma Magic:
One of these two is going to break a trend. Oklahoma Magic hasn't
been ridden by a right-handed rider yet, and Alves hasn't bucked
off three bulls in a row in a ridiculously long time. Alves came
down on his last two in Tulsa, so this is number three.
Caleb Sanderson on 766 Tick:
They met in Billings earlier this year and the bull won. Tick is
great little bull that came from Canada. He likes to spin to the
right, and if he weighed 400 pounds more than he does, he would be
an ideal draw for a bigger right-handed guy like Sanderson.
