In December, I got on my first bull since my wreck in New York. It wasn't the best one that they had, but it was a good starter, and I rode him. I got on another one, and I rode him, got on another one, and I rode him. That is all I have been doing recently is getting on bulls. I have gotten on as many as I could and have just been working out in the gym. I rode that one till he stopped. Like I said, he wasn't the best one, but in my mind, at that time, he was.
I feel great, besides the jitters that you get. Nothing bothered me while I was riding. I feel good.
When I broke my femur, it was really high up by my hip, so that part of my hip is still a little tender and I was worried about bumping it or something like that. I think the second bull that I got on, as I was getting off, he threw me up in the air and I came right down on top of it - the exact spot that I didn't want to hit.
The thought of being injured goes through your mind, but by the time that I was getting off of the first bull, or any of them, it just went back to a routine. There was no, "I don't want to get hurt again." It was just, as I started to get off, I set it up, and I got off.
My family and friends have been supportive as I start riding again a little over a year since the wreck. I think they are definitely nervous and worry about it, but they support me in my decision. They believe me when I say that I feel like I am ready, so they are like, "Okay, we are behind you."
I am going to be entering my first events back this week - in Wichita Falls, Texas, and Austin, Texas. I don't know the bull that I will be facing in the Wichita Falls event. I know his name, but I don't know the bull. I have never seen him before. I just want to win. That's my game plan.
For 2013, I want to get back to riding well enough to get back on the Built Ford Tough Series and compete. I have some short term goals: I want to win an event, I want to make it to the Finals this year, I want to be a contender and I want to come on strong. I want to make some money at this sport. I have been doing it long enough that I want to do something with it. I am going to hit the ground running and try to get some things done.
