LAS VEGAS - The pen is set for Wednesday night's opening round at the 2011 PBR World Finals.
Monday morning, 84 bulls took part in the ABBI Classic Wild Card event in the arena at South Point Hotel and Casino, with 73 of them vying for the final four spots in the 43-bull draw for Round 1 at the Thomas & Mack Center.
The top performing bulls were Rack Em Up, Trickster, Big Stink and Floyd 612.
Both Rack Em Up and Floyd 612 are owned and hauled by Brad Boyd and Toby Floyd. Rack Em Up won $25,000 as the top scoring bull with 89 points.
Trickster, hauled by Tom Teague, is a youngster who has come on strong of late, while Big Stink is a newcomer to Chad Berger's historically strong pen.
Rack Em Up outscored Trickster by a quarter of a point for the win. Neither of the Top 2 scoring bulls scored less than 22 points on any of the scorecards fromthe six judges. They were the only two bulls Monday who could make such a claim.
ABBI events are judged by six judges with the top score and low score not calculated into the final mark.
PBR Livestock Director Cody Lambert said he wasn't surprised by Monday's outcome and that other than Trickster, whom he had already slotted into Wednesday's draw, he wasn't familiar with a lot of the bulls competing.
"(Trickster) was that good of a bull that he had already made my list," Lambert said, "so had he not won anything, I was going to buck him anyway, because he's that good."
'Trickster was that good of a bull that he had already made my list.'
It was a stellar performance for Rack Em Up in comparison to his previous PBR outs.
He has six outs to his name - two of which have come at Built Ford Tough Series events - and remains unridden. In his two BFTS events he's bucked off Stormy Wing and Jason O'Hearn. Wing made it 6.7 seconds, while Rack Em Up's average buckoff time is under 4 seconds.
According to Lambert, the Wild Card round gave the Classic-age bulls another opportunity "to win a lot of money."
In addition to the money paid out for today's event, all four bulls are now in the regular Classic competition with a chance to win $250,000.
