FORT WORTH, Texas - Last summer, Jordan Hupp
rode one bull in the five Touring Pro Division events he entered,
and missed out on qualifying for the upcoming TPD Finals in
Denver.
This weekend, he was the only rider of 80 entered in the Cowtown
Classic to cover two bulls en route to a New Year's Eve win at the
Cowtown Coliseum.
Hupp was the first rider up on Friday night, and covered
Cowtown Slinger for 85 points. Later that night he
rode Lil Jeje for 87.5 in the short round.
'The event was fantastic. We had a great
crowd.'
Cody Campbell had a chance to take the win
Saturday night on the same short-round bull. He came down just
short of the 8-second whistle and finished second in the average,
with 88.5 points on Super Cool Cat.
Hupp and Campbell were the only two riders from the Top 40 in the
world standings to finish in the money before heading to New York
for the start of the Built Ford Tough Series.
Jarrod Craig, who has ridden at numerous BFTS
events, finished the two-day event sixth in the average, while
venerable veteran Brendon Clark was eighth.
Fan-favorite Cord McCoy was 11th. L.J.
Jenkins, Ryan McConnel, Caleb Sanderson, Stormy Wing, Justin Koon,
Dusty LaBeth and Matt Bohon were also
competing in Fort Worth.

Cody Campbell barely missed out on a shot at the event title in Fort Worth, Texas.
The event was the first ABBI Classic competition of the 2012
season for 3- and 4-year-old bulls.
In a sign that the bucking bull industry is thriving, Brad
Boyd and Toby Floyd, who produced the
event, had 130 bulls enter, with room for only 80. That meant 50
were randomly drawn out of the pen.
"The event was fantastic," said Boyd. "We had a great crowd.
"Everybody's talked about how the economy has hurt the bull
business - doesn't show it. Our registry is up in the ABBI, and
when you have a 130 people wanting to enter bucking bulls, that
just shows you how strong it really is. I wish I could have taken
them all."
The most impressive of the 80 was Ringo, who had
little trouble bucking off Craig Cunningham. Ringo
was marked 92.5 points.
In Classic competitions, bulls are marked by six judges, with the
highest and lowest scores being discarded.
'There were 10 bulls here that were good enough to go anywhere.'
Ringo scored at least 22.75 points from all six judges, with his
highest mark being 23.5 points in what was a 3.25-point win over
Shepherd Hills Tested, Carney Man and
Gonzo, who split second, third and fourth with
89.25 points each.
"There were 10 bulls here that were good enough to go anywhere,"
said PBR Livestock Director Cody Lambert. "Ringo,
Shepherd Hills Tested, Carney Man, Gonzo and Jungle
Juice are all good enough to be in the (Built Ford Tough)
Championship Round."
Lambert, who will see them again in Oklahoma City, added that
"they still have a little time to prove that."
He explained that some of the contractors won't be interested in
bucking their 4-year-old bulls at anything other than ABBI Classic
events because they're focused on competing for this year's Classic
title.
Rounding out the Top 10 Classic bulls of the event were Jungle
Juice (5th), Seminole Wind (6th) and
R351 (7th), while Egor, Razor Blade, Lets
Take it Outside and 238 Skatman Hou split
the next four spots.
