Palermo takes the lead at World Finals

LAS VEGAS - Riding Multi Min 90 Dark Shadow (Wolf Creek Cattle Company) for 87.25 points in front of 16,165 fans in Round 4 on Saturday, Robson Palermo moved into first place in the Professional Bull Riders Built Ford Tough World Finals at the Thomas & Mack Center.

Round 5 and the Built Ford Tough Championship Round are at 11:30 a.m. on Sunday. Tickets are available at the Thomas & Mack Center box office, www.UNLVTickets.com, and by telephone at (866) PBR-SHOW. Award-winning singer/songwriter Easton Corbin will open Championship Sunday on Oct. 28, taking the stage at 11a.m.

Sunday will also be the final out for each of the seven contenders for World Champion Bull. The top two bulls in the world, defending World Champion Bushwacker (Julio Moreno/Richard Oliveira) and 2011 runner-up Asteroid (Circle T Ranch & Rodeo), tied for first in Round 1 with 46.75 points. The 2012 World Champion Bull will be the bull who accumulates the highest total bull score on two trips.

Palermo has 352 points, and leads Luke Snyder by 85 points. 2004 World Champion Mike Lee is 90.25 points behind Palermo, and 2010 World Champion Renato Nunes is 93.25 points behind. Palermo is looking to become the first three-time Event Finals winner, and the first to win back-to-back Event Finals titles. Palermo won the Event Finals in 2008 and 2011. The Event Finals winner receives $250,000.

Marco Eguchi won Round 4 with 88.75 points on Cat Ballou (4L & Diamond S Rodeo Company), while Davi Henrique finished second with 88.25 points on Cyber Cat (Circle T/3B Bucking Bulls). Nunes, Lee, and Ty Pozzobon tied for third with 87.50 points, while Palermo was sixth.

Silvano Alves rode Bono (Hadley Cattle Co.) for 86.25 points to finish 10th in the round, and move into sixth place in the average. He increased his lead in the Built Ford Tough Series season standings over No. 2 Valdiron de Oliveira, who bucked off in Round 4, to 304.50 points.

The World Champion will be the rider with the most Built Ford Tough Series points accumulated during the regular season and the World Finals. The World Finals has a total purse of $2.2 million, including a $1 million bonus to the World Champion, who also receives the coveted championship buckle.

It is the 19th year in a row that the world's top bull riders and the fiercest bucking bulls have competed in Las Vegas. The World Finals field includes six former PBR World Champions, with Alves, Guilherme Marchi (2008), Nunes (2010), Kody Lostroh (2009), Lee (2004), and Chris Shivers (2000 and 2003). Sunday will be the last chance for fans to watch Shivers, who announced that he will retire following the World Finals.

NBC will broadcast Round 5 and the Built Ford Tough Championship Round at 4 p.m. ET on Oct. 28.
