PUEBLO, Colo. - The Professional Bull Riders announced that beginning with the 2013 season, there will be a point system implemented for the PBR Touring Pro Division and International events.

The point system will be patterned after the Built Ford Tough Series point system, awarding points for qualified rides and event-average place. The points for average place will be scaled based on the level of competition at each event.

There will only be one set of standings, and the draw for each Built Ford Tough Series event will be the Top 35 riders on Tuesday. The qualifiers for the Built Ford Tough World Finals will be the 35 riders with the most cumulative points from BFTS, TPD, and International events.

"The new point system will reward riders who ride their bulls at any level," PBR Senior Vice President of Competition Jay Daugherty said. "It is also going to encourage riders to compete in TPD and International events, giving more fans an opportunity to see some of the top riders in our sport. It provides more opportunities, particularly during the break in the Built Ford Tough Series schedule, for riders to compete and work towards the ultimate goal of winning the World Championship."

The draw for the first five BFTS events in 2013 will include the 35 qualifiers from the 2012 PBR Built Ford Tough World Finals with alternates determined by the new point system. Beginning with the sixth event, the draw for the BFTS will be the 35 riders with the most cumulative points from BFTS, TPD, and International events.

The TPD provides an opportunity for riders to compete in PBR-sanctioned events to earn points toward qualifying for the nationally-televised BFTS, which is comprised of the Top 35 bull riders in the world. The TPD is the developmental tour where established veterans and newcomers compete against some of the most famous bucking bulls. More than 100 TPD events are sanctioned annually by the PBR, awarding almost $3 million in prize money.

The BFTS is televised every week on CBS, CBS Sports Network and networks around the world. BFTS telecasts are produced for the PBR under a multi-year agreement with David Neal Productions, a Los Angeles-based production company led by 34-time Emmy® Award winner and Peabody Award winner David Neal, who serves as executive producer.
