NASHVILLE, Tenn. - Riding Smackdown (Dakota Rodeo/Chad Berger/Clay Struve/Julie Rosen) for 92.5 points in the Built Ford Tough Championship Round, Robson Palermo went from fourth to first and won the Professional Bull Riders Jack Daniel's Invitational, along with $43,425, on Saturday at Bridgestone Arena.
It is the second time Palermo has won in Nashville, having captured the title in 2007. It is also the second win of the season for Palermo, who finished first in Des Moines, Iowa, and moved him up to 12th in the Built Ford Tough Series season standings.
Palermo finished with 264.75 points while Brendon Clark was second with 259.50 points. Clark was the leader after the first day and was the only rider who had ridden all three bulls heading into the championship round. He had a chance for the victory, but bucked off Jack Daniel's Tennessee Honey (Circle T Ranch & Rodeo) in 2.77 seconds on the last ride of the night. Two-time PBR World Champion Chris Shivers finished third with 175.25 points, including 88.25 points on Prince Albert (Dakota Rodeo/Chad Berger Bucking Bulls) to win Round 3. Ben Jones finished fourth with 174.75 points while Aaron Roy and Ryan Dirteater tied for fifth with 172 points.
Asteroid (Circle T Ranch & Rodeo) won the Pabst Blue Ribbon Bull Award for being the high-marked bull of the event, earning 46.75 out of a possible 50 points. Asteroid bucked off Chase Outlaw in 7.17 seconds in the championship round. It is the third time that Asteroid has scored 46.75 points, tying the sixth highest bull score of the season, and giving him five of the year's Top 9 bull scores. It is the fourth time that Asteroid has won the high-marked bull award, tying him with top-ranked Bushwacker and Smackdown for the most.
Top-ranked L.J. Jenkins finished 11th in Nashville, and increased his lead over Valdiron de Oliveira in the season standings to 132.25 points. Defending World Champion Silvano Alves finished seventh in the event, and moved to within 307.75 points of Jenkins.
