SACRAMENTO, Calif. ― The PBR Built Ford Tough Series returns to California's capital Friday and Saturday at 8 p.m. at the Sleep Train Arena.
Fans attending on Friday will be able to witness the second PBR 15/15 Bucking Battle of the season, featuring the Top 15 riders in the world competing against the 15 highest-ranked bulls at the event. It will be held immediately following Round 1, and will be broadcast on CBS at 1 p.m. ET on Saturday (please check your local listings). Points earned in the PBR 15/15 Bucking Battle do not count toward the event results, but they will count toward the BFTS season standings and toward qualification for the Built Ford Tough World Finals.
The premier 15/15 Bucking Battle matchup will be 2004 PBR World Champion Mike Lee against 2012 World Champion Bull Asteroid. Asteroid made his season debut on Jan. 20 in Winston-Salem, N.C., bucking off 2008 PBR World Champion Guilherme Marchi in the first bucking battle of the season.
The current No. 1 rider in the world, Silvano Alves, will be paired with Buck Off (Wentz Bucking Bulls), while Jory Markiss will be matched up with Lightmaker's Rango (Jeff Robinson Bucking Bulls), who was a finalist for World Champion Bull in 2012.
Each of the Top 35 riders in the world will ride in Round 1 on Friday, and again in Round 2 on Saturday. Following Round 2 on Saturday, up to 15 riders will advance to the Built Ford Tough Championship Round. The overall event winner will be the rider with the highest-combined score from all three rounds, earning $30,000 for first place.
The field in Sacramento will feature four other PBR World Champions, including Alves, Renato Nunes (2010), Kody Lostroh (2009), Marchi (2008) and Lee (2004).
In addition to airing on CBS at 1 p.m. ET on Saturday, the PBR 15/15 Bucking Battle will be broadcast on CBS Sports Network at 5:00 p.m. ET on CBS Sports Network on Monday (check your local listings).
Tickets are available at the Sleep Train Arena box office, www.Ticketmaster.com and by telephone at (800) 745-3000. It is the ninth season in a row, and the tenth time overall, that the BFTS has visited Sacramento.
The BFTS features the world's best and highest-paid bull riders, including Alves, the back-to-back PBR World Champion (2011 and 2012). Alves reached $3 million in earnings in 28 months and 66 events, which is faster than any bull rider in history.
Sacramento is the fifth of 26 stops in 18 states on the Built Ford Tough Series schedule, which again opened the season with capacity crowds at Madison Square Garden in New York. The season will conclude at the Built Ford Tough World Finals in Las Vegas on Oct. 23-27, 2013. The PBR World Champion will receive the coveted Championship buckle and a $1 million bonus and a new pickup truck from Ford, the title sponsor of the Built Ford Tough Series.
The BFTS is televised every week on CBS, CBS Sports Network, and YouTube. BFTS telecasts are produced for the PBR under a multi-year agreement with David Neal Productions, a Los Angeles-based production company led by 34-time Emmy® Award winner and Peabody Award winner David Neal, who serves as executive producer.
