Robinson wins PBR event in Chicago

Billy Robinson claimed the title in Chicago with a 92.50-point effort on Smackdown.

CHICAGO ― Billy Robinson rode Smackdown (Dakota Rodeo/Chad Berger/Clay Struve/Julie Rosen) for 92.50 points to tie for first in the championship round and capture the event title on Sunday at the Professional Bull Riders Built Ford Tough Series Chicago Invitational. He won the crown in front of 8,170 fans at the Allstate Arena. A total of 17,277 fans watched the action over the two-day event.

Robinson tied Silvano Alves, who picked up 92.50 points on Buck Wild (C'N Stars Bull Company), in the championship round. With those scores, Robinson and Alves share the high-marked ride of the weekend and the season.

CBS Sports Network will broadcast Round 2 and the Built Ford Tough Championship Round at 8 p.m. ET on Sunday, Jan. 13.

Douglas Duncan and Marco Eguchi headed into the championship round in the lead before bucking off Gray Squirrel (New Frontier Rodeo) and Flint (Dakota Rodeo/Chad Berger Bucking Bulls), respectively.

Robinson finished with 263.75 points, while Alves took second with 261.50 points. Duncan and Eguchi tied for third at 173 points.

Two-time defending World Champion Alves leads the 2013 BFTS standings with 1,329 points, while Robson Palermo is in second place with 1,161 points. Duncan is in third with 1,082.75 points.

Smackdown and Lightmaker.com's Rango (Jeff Robinson Bucking Bulls) tied for the Pabst Blue Ribbon Bull Award for being the high-marked bull of the event, earning 45.75 points out of a possible 50 points in the championship round.


The PBR will travel to North Carolina next weekend for the Winston-Salem Invitational at the LJVM Coliseum. Bull riding begins at 8 p.m. on Friday and at 8 p.m. on Saturday. Tickets are available at www.Ticketmaster.com, and by telephone at (800) 745-3000.

Chicago is the second of 26 stops in 18 states that the Built Ford Tough Series schedule, which again opened the season with capacity crowds at Madison Square Garden in New York. The season will conclude at the Built Ford Tough World Finals in Las Vegas on Oct. 23-27, 2013. The PBR World Champion will receive the coveted Championship buckle and a $1 million bonus and a new pickup truck from Ford, which is also title sponsor of the Built Ford Tough Series.
