ARLINGTON, Texas – For only the second time in PBR history, one cowboy will have the chance to win $1 million for only 8 seconds of work.

On March 1, in Arlington, Texas, at AT&T Stadium, the winner of the Professional Bull Riders 2014 Iron Cowboy V will ride a World Championship caliber bonus bull and take home $1 million if he can make a qualified 8-second ride.

This $1 million ride is part of the richest weekend in Western sports history.  Between the PBR’s Iron Cowboy V on March 1 and THE AMERICAN on March 2, $3.15 million dollars will be up for grabs at AT&T Stadium - $1.15 million at the Iron Cowboy and $2 million at THE AMERICAN, the richest one-day rodeo in the history of the sport.

At $125,000 per second, this bonus ride is offering one of the largest payouts any athlete has ever received for the amount of time they are required to compete. In comparison, Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo received roughly $12 million dollars to play in 15 NFL games in 2013.  At 54,000 seconds per season, it took Romo 4,500 seconds to make $1 million. Dallas Mavericks power forward Dirk Nowitzki’s $1 million pace matches Romo’s.

The PBR’s first $1 million ride took place in 2003 when two-time World Champion Chris Shivers attempted to ride the only three-time PBR World Champion Bull Little Yellow Jacket (Teague Bucking Bulls) at the World Arena in Colorado Springs, Colo. Shivers was unsuccessful, but was the first and only rider to have the chance to make that mark in PBR history.

On Saturday, March 1, one lucky cowboy will earn the chance again.

The PBR returns to AT&T Stadium with Iron Cowboy V, part of the 2014 Built Ford Tough Series. It will feature 24 of the BFTS’s elite bull riders competing head-to-head for a total purse of $150,000. During this one-night-only event, the riders will be randomly drawn into brackets, where they will compete in head-to-head matchups with the rider who achieves the highest score or longest ride time in each matchup advancing to the next round. The matchups will continue until one cowboy prevails and is declared the “Iron Cowboy.”

The Iron Cowboy will receive $50,000 and the opportunity to win an additional $1 million with a successful ride in the bonus round.

This is the fifth consecutive year that the PBR has visited AT&T Stadium for the Iron Cowboy which will start at 7 p.m. on Saturday, March 1. Tickets are on sale ranging in price from $20 to $150. They can be purchased at the AT&T Stadium Box Office, all Ticketmaster locations, ticketmaster.com or by calling (800) 745 3000. Ticket prices include a pre-event concert by country star Justin Moore.

Arlington is the ninth stop of 27 on the 2014 PBR Built Ford Tough Series schedule, and one of only 18 cities to host the series before the PBR takes its summer break in May. The season will conclude at the PBR Built Ford Tough World Finals in Las Vegas on Oct. 22-26. The 2014 PBR World Champion, the bull rider who amasses the most points during the 2014 season, will receive the coveted World Championship belt buckle and a $1 million bonus while in Vegas.
