#3 in BFTS World Standings continues his hot streak!
Winston-Salem, N.C. (February 6, 2010) -
Austin Meier (Kinta, OKla.) continued his hot streak in Winston-Salem with the overall event win. In Round 2, Meier rode SkyHawk Cut-a-Rug (Jeff Robinson/Pinnacle Bull Group) for 88.5 points and second place. In the short-go, he took third place, staying on Lone Star (Robinson/Hagen Bucking Bulls) for 89.75 points. Overall, Austin took home $39,205 for the whole weekend and is currently ranked #3 in the world.
Brazilian Renato Nunes (Buritama, SP, Brazil) had an impressive weekend, winning both Round 2 and Round 3. In Round 2, he rode Flashpoint (Teague Bucking Bulls, LLC) for 89.25 points. Round 3 gave him the highest score of the weekend, 90.5points, on RMEF Bugle (Robinson/Perry Bucking Bulls). Nunes placed second in the overall event standings, coming in right behind Meier, and adding $18,752.50 to his bank account.
Only two other cowboys managed to make the buzzer in the championship round other than Meier and Nunes. Beau Hill (West Glacier, Mont.) received the first 90-point ride of the evening after he stayed on Chicken on a Chain (Robinson/Tedesco/Larry the Cable Guy) for 90 points. Current #7 in the BFTS World Standings, Skeeter Kingsolver (Mclouth, Kans.) was the fourth rider to stay on in the short-go, riding Fat Lip (Circle T Ranch & Rodeo) for 84.75 points.
J.B. Mauney (Mooresville, N.C.) attempted to wow his hometown crowd with a draft pick of Code Blue. He almost made 8 seconds, but the official review from the judges stated that he didn’t make the buzzer. Also, young rider Stormy Wing’s wreck on Cajun Blast (Circle T Ranch & Rodeo) brought the arena to complete silence as he was carried out on a backboard. Wing received a concussion and is questionable to compete in next week’s event in Oklahoma City.
McDonald (Col. Juarez, Mexico) and McKennon Wimberly (Cool, Texas) tied for third and fourth in Round 2. McDonald stayed on Outa Da Blue, owned by Circle T Ranch & Rodeo, while Wimberly made the buzzer on Jerome Davis Bucking Bulls’ Off the Hook, both rides getting a score of 88 points. In another tie, this time for 5th and 6th places, was Cody Ford (Stanfield, Ore.) and Stormy Wing (Dalhart, Texas). Ford rode Teague Bucking Bulls, LLC’s Rusty Zipper and Wing stayed on Lucky Toad (Jerome Davis Bucking Bulls) for 87.75 points each.

Ben Jones injured his neck. He will get x-rays early next week and is questionable to compete in Oklahoma City.

Hi to all you regular bloggers out there. I just looked on the brackets for the Iron Cowboy
and that competition looks TOUGH! Good job to whoever put it together. Some of my picks are
riding injured-Peterson & Marchi-so that makes my picks even harder to decide. It would be
nice if everybody could ride healthy but that's almost impossible in this sport. Does anybody
know if VS is going to show this event? It would be great if they did. I wish I could be there.
Instead I'm stuck here in the Mid-Atlantic digging out from ANOTHER snow storm! I hope some of
you bloggers can make it to the Iron Cowboy as it looks like the bulls are going to be just as
good as the riders and I think it will be an event to remember. -

February 8, 2010Sannpow - got your message and sent you one back!
Twiggy - I do believe Sat. will work best for most. We can coordinate by telephone once
we get there.
Really looking forward to it. I checked out the weather report for OKC... Not so good!
Looks like rain and COLD.... so I guess we better pack warm and bring our umbrellas!! -

February 8, 2010Well, better late than never on commenting on Winston Salem. First off, congrats to Austin,
couldn't happen to a more deserving guy. Talked with him a few times while we were in Brazil,
but have sat with his wife at some events, super sweet gal. Renato, what in the world
happened?....not even a 5.2 on your back flip landing! Guess you'll need to take Ednei to the
pool & practice some more....lol (For those of you that don't remember, Ednei tried a back
flip off the shark cage once...didn't go to well.....afterwards he said Renato had been helping
him practice in the pool) Seriously, glad you've made it back into the top 10.
Really looking forward to OK City, our first live event of the new year. TWTX & I have emailed
back & forth and from the sounds of it....Saturday is going to be the day we try & meet up.
I'm thinking maybe at B!@# Pro for the draft...or maybe at the Marriot lobby after the draft.
Anyone else want to jump in with ideas....I'm sure there are several of us that will be going.
The private message thing works great in the Teampbr forum. -

Anything I can do that entertains the m!@#es, I'm game for. Waders you say, heck I've got a whole wet suit!!! -

February 8, 2010sannpow - webpbr talked to you last night about OKC get together. If you want you can go to
the teampbr forum and find me there. Look under the Road Trip topic and then the Oklahoma
City thread. I am the first poster there and you can send me a private message, and maybe
we can work out the details. I am really ready for a live event!!! -

February 8, 2010No, I did not say as long as you are not ashamed of something that it is ok to do it. I said that if youre going to do something then dont hide it. Be who you are no matter where you are. I am not saying what everyone does is right as long as it feels good to them. I am saying it is none of my business what others choose to do. They do not have to think twice about how I see things or how I feel about them. It's God's wrath that will eventually speak.
Have a wonderful day! -
webpbr
February 8, 2010shawnna - This is what I wrote back in Oct 09, to several that wote about casting the first stone. "Also, not to get into a Bible study, but since you and someone else brought up the "He who is without sin cast the first stone". Jesus, in John 8:1-11, is not talking about judging. The Scribes and Pharisees were trying to trick Jesus. Therefore they were hypocrites, because their motivation was not about the woman, but about Jesus himself. Also, He told the woman "Go and sin no more". Jesus forgave her of her sin, but did not excuse the sin."
I don't judge people, that is not my job. We are all sinners, my self included. There are things that are wrong to do and wrong is wrong, simple as that. That is one of the problems with today's society, there is no right or wrong, everything is gray. As long as it feels good, it is ok. You said that as long as you are not ashamed of something, then it is not wrong. I happen to believe differently. People have to search their own hearts, and deal with God to find out what is wrong. However, as I stated before, I have seen some that say "I am a christian", but do things that are totally against what the bible teaches, and they are neither ashamed nor do they care.
Now, on to talk about bull riding and back on subject. -
shawnna
February 8, 2010You might be taking it as he was talking about adultery only. That was not the message. He simply meant unless you are flawless in your own actions don't cast the stone.
You said you see people all the time that are doing things that are wrong. I was just saying what is wrong to some of us is not necessarily wrong in the eyes of others. I just think sometimes people are extremely too quick to place a judgement on others. Thats all. -
webpbr
February 8, 2010shawnna - Did I say that something specific was right or wrong? Also, about casting the first stone, I already has this discussion with someone about thaton here back months ago. If you are going to quote the bible, please use it in the context that it was meant, when Jesus said it. -
webpbr
February 8, 2010smartypants - I don't have a problem in the least bit with Ron,inNC. I think it's great to have new people on the comment section. I think it's great to be able to discuss or debate issues back and forth. Some of the best discussions you will ever have is with people you disagree with, as long as people don't take the discussion personally. But it was funny that for someone to say that I talk too much, but then have a back and forth with me, thereby "allowing" me to talk too much to them.:) -
shawnna
February 8, 2010webpbr..who are we to say what is right or wrong? Let him without fault cast the first stone. If you think about it, each one of us probably does something that another would find wrong. -

February 8, 2010I missed the whole event. Our power was out until just a half hour ago. First thing I do is go on PBRnow.com.I can sympathize with those who don't get the broadcasts. Icalled friends to find out anything, no one had power. I was completely going crazy. I'm sorry the Wing and Navarro got injured. Also Peterson. He has been a long time favorite of mine. Just when he seemed to be getting hot, he gets injured. Get well soon, Wylie.
Congratulation to Austin and also Nunuz. Seems they had a great event.
sometimes what we put on this site doesn't come out the way we meant it to. I don't think Ron was meaning anything negative against you, webpbr. It just came out the wrong way. I many times wonder if those with comments about the riders are really giving first-hand information or just an opinion formed like I do from the broadcasts and reading. And we certainly all have a right to our opinion, even if it is wrong.
I too disagree on having a camera in the training room or anywhere the cowboys should find privacy. -

February 7, 2010webpbr - I will keep checking for more info from you about a "quick meet" and maybe we can make it. -
webpbr
February 7, 2010Twiggy has talked to my wife and maybe we can arrange a quick meet up Fri or Sat in the lobby of the host hotel (Marriot I think). I agree, it will be fun to actually attend events again and November seems like it was a lifetime ago. We are in section 104C. -
sannpow
February 7, 2010webpbr - you do surprise me 100% of the time... :)
Yes, I and my husband will be attending OKC. I'm so looking forward to it. It's been way too long since Finals and I'm ready to see some bull riding. Maybe we will see you there. Are you all sitting in the same general area? -
webpbr
February 7, 2010sannpow - I agree 100%. See, I can do it more than you think. :)
Maybe TWTX, and I will see you and Twiggy and a few others in OKC. -

February 7, 2010I think the reason for Zack Brown's stunned response to Justin was because couldn't believe that Justin was asking such a stupid question #1, and #2, he probably had a few choice words to say but was doing everything possible to bite his tonque not to say what he really wanted to say to him on national TV. I don't think I blame Zack. I've heard some really stupid questions asked, but that one wins the prize! -

February 7, 2010Hey photonut, I used a Canon 5D and an EF 70-200mm 1:2.8 IS USM...I shot at 1600 ISO and set the shutter speed to 400...with the aperture at 2.8. I was in the far corner away from the chutes. Next time the event comes to Winston-Salem I'm going to buy early and get as close as I can for $100 (this is in reference to photos put up on Flickr from Saturday's Winston-Salem event...www.flickr.com/photos/11346289@N08/sets/72157623370197654/).
What a great show. I was looking through the lens when Stormy got hit. I didn't get context of the impact, but it was something that stopped time. You could hear a pin drop in the coliseum seconds after the collision. I'm just glad more riders didn't get hurt since there were several close calls. -

February 7, 2010Ron,inNC - Having an opinion and voicing that opinion often makes one neither right or wrong :). As a JB fan said on one of these comments recently about JB, there is the person and the personna. Sometimes those are different. There are those who sit in front of their tv and never meet the riders or have met them only a few times, but they "love" them. Yet when someone says they may not like that person or their actions, whether it is on tv or in person, it is a bad thing. According to some, you can love the rider from your couch, but you are not allowed to not like them from your couch. Just seems like a double standard, but from some I would not expect otherwise. -
BullRidingIsArt
February 7, 2010Thanks Ron...you are a friend that knows the real true facts and you have shared them well. I get so tired of the fans that generalize and speculate based on their belief system that they try to push onto the rest of us. Also so good to hear a helmet is in Brians near future.
Again thanks...keep sharing every chance you get...we need to hear the true facts from someone that knows the rodeo way of life. -
Ron,inNC
February 7, 2010webpbr - it seems to me that you may be one of those politicians that you speak of---has a comment about anything and everything. LOL! -
Ron,inNC
February 7, 2010J.B. shows up at a bull riding to do his job whether it is a Built Ford Tough event, a local bull riding, or the practice pen and he's had that attitude all of his life. What I truly admire about him is how the "fame" and "fortune" has not changed this kid whatsoever. He is the same now as when he was riding in the junior rodeos around here. He just loves being a cowboy and getting his job done. Also a lot of people probably don't know how well J.B. takes care of his friends and family.
As far as Brian, I'm not 100% sure, but I do believe he will be in helmet full-time soon. Maybe as early as this weekend. -
webpbr
February 7, 2010shawnna - I see people all the time that do things that are wrong, yet they are not ashamed of it. Just because someone is not ashamed of what they are doing, does not mean that they are doing right or they should not stop doing something that is wrong. By the way, I am NOT talking about any rider, I am talking about people in general. Also, just because someone wears a cross, does not make them a christian. I AM NOT TALKING ABOUT ANY RIDERS, AGAIN I AM NOT TALKING ABOUT ANY RIDERS. There are people that wear crosses as jewelry, not because of their beliefs. I have also seen people that call themselves christians, but do things that would make any christian ashamed, but they don't care. So, just be careful of anyone who says one thing and does another. Something like politicians do. lol -
BullRidingIsArt
February 7, 2010Ron,inNC: Share with us about the NC riders. For example does JB have the free spirit confidence that he displays? What do you admire most about him?
Also, Brian..do you think he will consider a helmet? or is he as free spirited and stuborn as he displays?lol -
shawnna
February 7, 2010Sorry, I meant to type they will never even think to take away the right to display faith! -
shawnna
February 7, 2010Indiana_Rusty....I feel very strong that no matter how big the PBR gets (and it's big now) they will even think about taking away the right for someone to display their faith.
As far as JB smoking, I don't feel like its really that big of a deal. I personally do not smoke, but if I did I wouldn't want to hide it. Never be ashamed of what you're doing. If you ever have to be ashamed of something then its probably time to rething the situation. Plus I think JB is one of those guys that has the "it is what it is" kind of attitude and I think thats great!! Sometimes people just care too much what others think of them! -
Ron,inNC
February 7, 2010BullRidingIsArt, you are correct. Like I said before, I've known him all of his life. And yes, I am a fan as I am with most of the guys. -
BullRidingIsArt
February 7, 2010IndianaRusty, it may be the sponsor logos removed from JB's chaps that make them look different but they are the same ones he has worn since I've been his biggest fan. The large cross on the chaps is just like the large cross he wears around his neck (been there a long time). Also, it may be all the advertisements removed from the vest and shirt that make it shine more.
Ron,in N.C. since you personally know JB and his family I !@#ume you are one of his personal friendsa and a fan. Am I right? -

Indiana_Rusty
February 7, 2010First - I appreciate the info from those who pointed out for me that JB has worn a cross around his neck and had a cross on his chaps - I hadn't been able to spot the one on the chain before and thought maybe he'd just gotten it. As for the cross on his chaps, does he have more than one set of chaps possibly? Personally I like to see the riders who are willing to display their faith; I think the day the riders are discouraged from that, I will start to lose interest. That is one reason I would rather not see bull riding get too popular, because eventually they'd have to accommodate fans who might complain about opening prayers, crosses, etc.
Re Justin McKee, at the very least he could have taken a much more sympathetic attitude than he did. He could have wiped that half grin on his face and perhaps asked something like "Zack, we just saw you make a tremendous effort to ride that bull but it didn't go your way. You've got a lot of fans out there no matter what happened today. Do you have anything you'd like to say to them?" Something like that would have been so much better. Zack could've just said 'I'd like to thank my fans for standing behind me and I promise they'll be seeing me for sure.'
Finally, I guess it shouldn't be a surprise that some of these cowboys smoke or chew tobacco but for the sake of the younger fans I wish they'd make an effort to not put it right on TV. I can't claim to be JB's biggest fan but if I were him I'd be a little peeved to be shown smoking on TV when I was relaxing in the training room after the event. -
gmay
February 7, 2010I don't think JB picked Code Blue to wow the hometown crowd. I think JB picked Code Blue because he was 5 full points behind Austin and if Austin scored an 29, JB would need a 94 to win. Code Blue was his best chance to win. -
webpbr
February 7, 2010Well .... enough about bull riding..... It's time for the Superbowl to kick off!!! Pulling for the Saints!!!! Like to see them get their fist Superbowl win. But, Peyton Manning is good. -
Ron,inNC
February 7, 2010Webpbr not troubled my the number of comments,
Just had a guestion after reading the recent articles as to how your opinions were formed?
You ask how mine are formed. I've only made one comment about a rider and that was JB who I
have known all of his life and have been around the rodeo world all of mine..... -
Shannon K
February 7, 2010Ron,inNC: Glad to hear you didn't have any ulterior motive for asking about my commenting frequency :). As I said below, "What I know about bull riding I've gathered from the broadcasts and from this website." Hope that answers your question! -
Ron,inNC
February 7, 2010No as I said to Webpbr
"My question was that you just seem to have comments on every article posted on this website. I was just curious what your affiliation was with a rider (or riders) and/or the !@#ociation. Never said you weren't entitled to put your opinion on here...just asked how your comments and opinions were formed (whether it was personal or through the television)."
I've never blogged before and probally want again after today, my life is way to busy. Just had a guestion after reading the recent articles as to how your opinions were formed? -
webpbr
February 7, 2010Run,inNC - No, I do not work for the PBR. Do I have to work for the PBR to leave comments? I appreciate the compliment that you would think that I work for the PBR :). Yes I will be in OKC and Arlington. Nothing to be defensive about. Also, if you look back at the articles, I would say that about 20-30 people mainly comment on here and multiple times as well. Also, I agree with Shannon K, are you troubled with the frequency of comments, and if so, why? -
Shannon K
February 7, 2010Ron,inNC: I don't know any riders personally, nor do I have any desire to; I'm also not in any way !@#ociated with the PBR. What I know about bull riding I've gathered from the broadcasts and from this website, and I hope I'm always ready to learn more from those who are more knowledgeable than I. Are you trying to hint that the frequency of my comments bothers you? -
Ron,inNC
February 7, 2010Webpbr if your opinions are formed from personal experince with the riders do you work for the
PBR? You seem to have alot of opinions. As far as your comments on every artical I'm new to this blogging thing. I just looked at the past few, sorry if that was a miss statement. You seem to have defensive about it. Will you be in OKC or Dallas? -

February 7, 2010Get Well Soon Every One. My sister thought Stormy was dead when he hit the ground out cold. I plan to keep watching Stormy progress as a bullrider. -

February 7, 2010Congratulations to Austin on his win. I was also disappointed that the draft was only shown until JB made his pick. I would like to see all the riders make their picks, they are all important. Maybe JB didn't know the camera would be there when he was smoking, but in that case, don't televise that part of the clip, bad influence on youngsters watching.JB should know better than to be smoking anyway - you are too good of a bull rider and athlete to chance shortening your career by something like that. Hope Stormy & Wiley recover quick. Glad to see fair judging throughout the event. Zack will be back soon I'm sure. -
webpbr
February 7, 2010By the way, your comment about having a comment on every article is an overstatment and factly not true. -
webpbr
February 7, 2010Speaking for myself, my opinions are formed from personal experince with the riders as well as tv, reading, listening, studying, my personal life experiences and other's experiences. How are your's formed? When I make comments, I try and be as honest as possible, without being nasty or mean. -
Ron,inNC

Never said you weren't entitled to put your opinion on here...just asked how your comments and opinions were formed (whether it was personal or through the television). -

February 7, 2010I have said that I have come to like JB personally, and yes I have met him. I just don't care for some of his actions. I don't know Obama pesonally, but I certainly have the right to criticize something he has done or said that I disagree with. People have the right to disagree with me, and they do. Do they know me personally? Whether it is JB or anybody else in the public eye, they will be liked and people will say so, and they will not be liked and people will say so. If they can not take the negative comments, they need to find another job, where everybody will like them and always give them a pat on the back, no matter what they do. As JW has said numerous times, this is bull riding, these guys are tough. None of these guys need protecting from getting their feelings hurt. -

February 7, 2010Having read all 35 comments before I decided to write this all I can say is everyone seems to
be in aggrement today. There was only one thing left out and that was the judging. To them I
want to say Thank You! For the first time since the beginning of 2007 the scores for the
riders and bulls have been unbiased, not the way it has been in the past. The last 3 events
I have paid close attention to the scoring and only a couple of times have the 4 judges been
1 1/2 points apart. Most of the time all 4 have either been the same or within a half point
of each other. To me that means they are judging fairly without any bias toward any riders.
Again Thank you.
To Wiley, my all time favoriate..Get Well Soon. -

February 7, 2010As you can see I am from North Carolina and I personally know J.B. (as well as his family). Just wondering if your comments are based on personal experience with these riders or if it is just the opinions that you have formed while watching them on TV. -

February 7, 2010Ron,inNC - What does knowing the rider personally have to do with leaving comments? -

February 7, 2010FYI: JB has had a cross on his chaps and worn one around his neck for over nine years. He does have
many tattoos one of which is a cross as well.
Webpbr and Shannon K:
It seems you blog on almost every article. How many of the riders do you know
personally and not just who you see on TV every weekend or have a brief
conversation at an event with? -

February 7, 2010Great job last night Beau & Happy Birthday to you today!
Wish I could watch the BFTS every week but fans here in Canada have no access to the broadcasts
on Versus. :( Have to check out the latest info on PBR website. -

February 7, 2010Well maybe since Justin has that experience under his belt, the next time he will be more relaxed in his settings. -

February 7, 2010cedgewick: Great pictures!
I am kind of a photography enthusiast, and I would like to take a few pics at PBR events. Was the lens you used the Nikkor 70-200 f/2.8? What camera, shutter speed and ISO setting did you use to get these great shots?
Thanks for the pictures! -

February 7, 2010I agree that producers are telling people who to interview, but just like you said about Zach sucking it up, Justin McKee needed to suck it up and do a better job of interviewing Zach. Justin is a professional as well, he shouldn't have a nervous smile, he has done many interviews, just not down at the chutes. -
shawnna
February 7, 2010Also, please remember that Justin has an ear piece that the producers are using to tell him who to interview. Leah has the same. She is told who to interview. As far as Justin's facial expressions, I think that he wasnt smiling at Zack at all. Maybe he was a bit nervous doing an interview since he normally is not the one doing it. I know when I am nervous I smile and laugh a lot. This is just a sport where you can't wear your feelings on your sleeve. You just gotta suck it up and deal. I hope Zack goes home gets on multiple bulls, figures out where is problem is and comes back on tour. Best of luck to him! -

February 7, 2010Also, I agree with JW that Skeeter should have been given the option for a reride in the short go. -
webpbr
February 7, 2010First congrats to Austin, Skeeter and Josh, just keep riding and climbing the rankings. All three are great guys.
I would suppose that many, including the booth announcers, saw JB touch Code Blue's horn way before the whistle, somehow the judges missed it.
Regarding the camera's and microphones: They are there and are there to stay, like it or not. I am not saying you should not voice your displeasure with it, but the PBR has made the decision to keep them there. I don't know if Leah would have inteviewed Zach, especially up on the chutes, like Justin did, but I think she would have handled it more professionally. Justin is not use to doing the interviews after the rides. The main problem I had with his interview was that he was smiling at Zach when he was asking the questions, as though this was fun and games. Zach looked dumbfounded that he was being asked such stupid questions at that time. He looked like he wanted to either punch Justin or just walk away, but just stood there like he didn't know how to answer his questions.
It is a shame about Wiley and Stormy, injuries just keep mounting up. Since it is February, is Travis now done for the year? Looks like the NC riders did not live up to the hype, NC bulls did.
Like seeing the draft, but they stopped showing the draft after JB's pick, then followed him back to the locker room, then after commercial, back from the locker room. Why not show the last 8 picks, since you showed the first 7? -
JuddieK
February 7, 2010I would much rather watch coverage of the draft, than to watch the cowboys walk back to locker room after their ride. I think the locker room should be off limits to the camera. They should at least have that much privacy. -
dsw
February 7, 2010Thrilled for Austin & Skeeter too. Met both of them last fall & they are great representatives for the sport. -

February 7, 2010Like others I was scared when Stormy was knocked out, but like JW said was so glad to see him moving his legs while he was still in the arena. Just sick about Wiley getting injured. He is one of my favorite riders.
About J.B. wasn't surprised to see him smoking, I know he smokes, but all the ice packs was a surprise. I do think that camera's should not be al lowed in the locker room. That is the one place the cowboys should be able to have some privacy. Kinda summed up just how rough this sport is.
Justin's attempt to interview Zack Brown was just RUDE!!! Justin I am surprised at you, thought you had more cl!@# than to pull a bonehead stunt like that. SHAME ON YOU!!
O.K., I'll get off my soapbox now. -

February 7, 2010Very excited for Austin!! He has been on top of his A game thats for certain! I do believe he is going to be in the running for not only the Dallas event, but a world championship!
In the back of my mind tho, I think JB somewhat made the same call as Austin did with Code Blue. Code Blue will be the last bull to buck at Dallas. I think he was not only trying to improve the previous ride on Code Blue, but get a better feel of him for Dallas. That is not to say I think JB is gonna have an easy ride to get to Code Blue, but if he does make it there he has a lot more knowlegde of the bull.
I am not cold hearted at all, but I dont think it was wrong for Justin to interview Mr. Brown right after his ride. If you choose this for your career, then be ready for it. If you are not ready for the uncomfortable interviews you should probably find another career. I hate to see him get cut, but it's all part of the game. You gotta take the bad with the good and just regroup.
Poor Wiley! Bless his heart. He is going to be missed so much. I remeber a couple of events back when Ty was commenting on how Wiley never gets injured. He spoke too soon. I hope Wiley has a fast recovery. Can't wait to see him back!
Praise the Lord that Stormy is ok! How scary that was. I hate he is missing the event in Oklahoma, but am so very happy to know there are no serious injuries. Thoughts and Prayers for the Wing family!! I hope Brian will look at Stormys accident and start wearing a helmet full time! -
Shannon K
February 7, 2010BullRidingIsArt: I'm not sure I understand your comment. Why don't you want to see the draft coverage during a live broadcast? There's nothing else going on in the arena at the time, so why not show it? I didn't do a specific count to make sure we saw all the rides last night, but I distinctly remember seeing Jacoby's buckoff. I can understand not showing the draft when the show is limited to two hours (or 1.5, grr) and tape-delayed -- in that case showing the draft would cause us to see fewer rides -- but I don't see why they shouldn't show it in cases like last night. -

February 7, 2010BullridingIsArt..I'm with you about the Brian Canter thing. Last week it was great to see him
with a helmet, and this week I couldn't believe he was back in his hat again, but that's his
decision. Then the PBR showed the replays of him getting his head stomped on and after Stormy's
terrible wreck you'd think the cowboys would be crazy not to wear a helmet. It was a blessing
that Stormy did have a helmet on as it might have been a different outcome. and it was certainly
a relief to see his legs moving and kudos to J.W. to say something on the broadcast to his family.
Speaking of J.W., he's always been my favorite in the booth. He's always funny and I know he rubs
some people the wrong way with his "tell it like it is" attitude, but that's just J.W. and I
think all the cowboys in the PBR either the "oldtimers" or the young up and coming riders have
alot of respect for him. Get well prayers for all the injured riders on this Sunday. -
BullRidingIsArt
February 7, 2010Another comment: I wish Brian Canter would consider a full time helmet. Watching him last week in a helmet was such a relief..and this week NO helmet. Come on Brian make a good decision and protect yourself from any future repeat head injuries. I know it not realistic but I wish all riders were required to wear them.
Watching Austin M. lately has been inspiring. He's focused and driven. Congratulations Austin.
I wish my favorite rider, JB, best of luck next week. Stay focused and pick bulls wisely. -
BullRidingIsArt
February 7, 2010It seems with each broadcast we see more insensitive interviews, unnecessary history clips, and junky locker room scenes. I would much perfer to see more bullriding. We didn't even get to watch so many of the amazing riders (Elliot J. for one, etc...) I also agree cut the draft coverage too so all the riders get the respect of TV time and the fans get to watch what we love to see "Bullriding".
It is troubling to see so many riders suffer from injuries so early in the season.
I pray that the Iron Cowboy Invitational is not too much for these riders. No time in the history of bullriding has there been so many rank bulls..truely difficult bulls to ride that tear their riders apart. The Iron invitational is stacked with rank bulls. I am hoping the riders heal before they face this tough event and they stay safe during. I guess the big bucks$$$ will be worth it??!! -

February 7, 2010Congrats' to Austin, nice job! As for McKee's interview and smoking scenes, I think vs tries for to much sensationalism, like fox covering Nascar. Getting in drivers faces after an altercation on the track.
It does seem like too many injuries early in the season, maybe the bulls are the better athletes?
My personal thoughts are JB shouldn't have picked Code Blue to wow hometown crowd, if a world title is what he's after, he should pick bulls that fit his riding style, ala Marchi. And vs should drop the draft coverage, just let the announcers go through the list. Do we need to see each rider come up and pick a bull? -
alamo
February 7, 2010I'd like to see the PBR keep Zack Brown on the BFTS and cut Justin McKee instead. There's something wrong with the PBR's new rules when a rider who is in the top ten or better last year, wins 4 events last year and can spur a bull in the neck gets cut this early into the new season. I will not be buying VIP tickets or any others until he's back on tour. And thank you, J.W. for thinking of Stormy Wing's folks when he was shown injured. Glad to see you back in the booth. Your honesty is refreshing. -

February 7, 2010lkhindy....thanks. I've never noticed it before and was curious. Odd that I missed that since
it was on his riding arm. Didn't notice any other tattoos when they panned the training room
but that may be because the cigarrette caught my attention...or the amount of ice packs he had
wrapped around him.
BullGal...I fully understand the 30"! UGh...is it Spring yet? Rotten luck on not having
cable! Stormy Wing went forward on the bull as the bull whipped his head up (my interpretation anyway) and Stormy slammed into the bull. He went down hard and did not move for a while. Dr. Tandy and crew were out there almost immediately. The arena was silent...scary moment. -

February 7, 2010Splash- JB has quite a few tattoo's, you can usually see then when they do shots of him in the training room. -

February 7, 2010We are proud of Beau Hill for representing our Great state of Montana.Great week-end Beau !!
With all the injuries there will be some changes for Dallas so update your picks and watch the
injury reports. Again TRASHY coverage for the hard luck guys. When will Verses and the PBR
get it into their thick heads we would rather have celebration and positive interviews? What
a nice picture for the upcoming kids J. B. smoking in the locker room?? In your face with
Zack Brown..... Great to have you back in the booth J,W. Where can we send wedding Gifts to
Aaron Roy -

February 7, 2010I'm one of those buried under 30" of snow, although we are fortunate to still have electricity our cable is out -- so missed the telecast last night.
So let me ask ... what happened with Stormy Wing? Did he get slammed, kicked, stomped???
And are you all kidding me, McKee shoved a microphone in Zack's face and had a big smile on his face after Zack got cut?!! My gosh, if that is the honest truth I will have lost all respect for that man and won't hesitate to tell him the next time I see him. -

February 7, 2010Did anybody notice that the replays have not been so forgiving since they have a new replay judge I hope that everyone that got hurt will get back soon they are a great !@#et to the PBR but the young coming up are stepping great event this weekend -

February 7, 2010It is scary to see the injuries; the silence in the arena (from watching on TV) was telling...
I let out a big breath of relief when I saw Stormy's legs move and then when they announced he
was up and talking to Dr. Tandy.
Regarding JB...I've noticed the necklace many times but I was wondering about what was on his
arm last night? Does he have a tattoo? I've never noticed that before? But last night when
he was in the chutes it looked as if there was something written on his arm. Does anyone know?
As for him smoking, I was saddened by that. Smoking is so unhealthy and I don't understand why
anyone does it, let alone an athlete...
cedgewick--thanks for sharing your pictures. You got some great shots. If I ever get to an
event I am sure all my pics would be incredible blurs! -

February 7, 2010I got some photos from the event in Winston-Salem and posted them on Flickr. A great shot of Austin's winning ride and Stormy's knockout are included....

February 7, 2010How about a little respect and space for the riders? I am talking about cameras on Zack Brown after he bucked off and then Justin McKee smiling while he shoved a microphone in his face, a la Leah Garcia and that woman who interviewed Adriano after his last ride. Or replaying Dustin Elliott during the finals last year again during events this year? Justin McKee was extremely rude and inappropriate. Nobody smiles when somebody gets cut. This tabloid style of coverage has to stop. -
hillsaa
February 7, 2010Indiana_Rusty: JB has always worn a necklace with a cross charm on it and some of his hat bands occasionally also have crosses on them. -
Shannon K
February 7, 2010TWTX: Yeah, it might just be my perception, but the injury list looks rather like April -- and it's just the beginning of February. It's hard seeing so many guys hurting! -
tlw4christ
February 7, 2010One other thing,, I agree that McKee's attempt to interview Zack right after he bucked off
was insensitive and an inappropriate time. Zack knew that meant he would be cut, and I think
it would have been more respectful to wait a little while before sticking a microphone in
his face. I am really sad for Zack. He had a tremondous season last year, and this just
brings up what Shannon K had said in comments last month about how if you get a rough start
or if you are injured it is unfair to those riders at the beginning of the year as far as
the cut rules. But if you have a bad time in the middle or toward the end you tend to just
linger on tour. -
TWTX
February 7, 2010ShannonK - I am right there with you. Stormy's wreck was just scary, it seemed like a long
time before he moved at all. And I just hate to see Wiley get hurt. I did not know that Ben
Jones had gotten hurt, and sure hope Dustin will be okay for next week. It seems so many of
our riders, and a lot of our top guns are hurt and so early in the year. It really takes
away a little of the excitement of the competition.
I too would have liked to have seen the rest of the draft. Nothing against JB, but I don't
think anyone was really interested in watching him walk all the way down the hall and later
watching him walk back up the hall. I think everyone would have enjoyed watching the rest
of the draft.
Sure hope the weather is okay and everyone makes their way home safely! -
Indiana_Rusty
February 7, 2010Definitely a scary moment seeing Stormy Wing knocked out and then getting bucked off to land head-first on the ground; when I saw him moving his legs I was sure relieved - no broken neck or paralysis. Whew.
Is it my imagination or is JB Mauney newly wearing a cross on a neck chain, and new chaps with crosses? If that's what he wants to do I say good for him. Frankly I tend to favor the Christian cowboys because I find their attitude is better. And on that topic, it seems to me that JB's attitude in interviews has improved since last season.
What brand of cigs was he smoking in the locker room after the event? I suspect he wasn't expecting to be on TV shen he lit up.
Finally, I thought Justin McKee's attempt to interview Zack Brown right after getting bucked off was 'unfortunate' to say the least. Brown could hardly think of a thing to say to him, and asking questions about getting bucked off with a smile on his face probably didn't inspire Brown to want to say much to him. It was a very uncomfortable 20 or 30 seconds to say the least. -
Shannon K
February 6, 2010I'm just sick about the injuries this weekend. It was so scary to see Stormy Wing knocked out like that -- and scarier still because the arena and announcers got so quiet when he wasn't moving. Such a relief to hear that he was sitting up and talking to Tandy! And then there's Wiley's ACL. Reminds me of 2008, when he was coming off winning the Finals and then had a buckoff that didn't look bad but ended up breaking his collarbone. I'm praying for healing for Stormy and Wiley and the others who are injured!
It was so exciting seeing Austin win an event! It's about time! And I think he showed good sense by knowing which bull he'll be riding at the Iron Cowboy and picking him. Don't know whether he'll win the Iron Cowboy, but he's certainly tough enough to do so!
Why can't we see the entire draft when it's during a live broadcast? There was plenty of time to show a feature on JB (which was, I think, not even a new one) and talk to Code Blue's owners...couldn't VS have spent a minute or so less on that and shown the rest of the draft? At least the announcers didn't talk while they were showing it...
