Full 2010 World Cup Teams Announced!!
LAS VEGAS (March 13, 2010) - The Professional Bull Riders, Inc. (PBR) announced on Saturday the full rosters for the teams that will be heading to Las Vegas for the 2010 World Cup on April 16-18. Held on U.S. soil for the first time, this premier international event will take over the Thomas & Mack Center for three action packed days, to determine the best bull riding nation in the world!
Joining previously announced Team USA members Austin Meier (Kinta, Okla.) and McKennon Wimberly (Cool, Texas) will be the No. 1 ranked rider in the Built Ford Tough standings J.B. Mauney (Mooresville, N.C.), reigning World Champion Kody Lostroh (Longmont, Colo.), and rising star Jordan Hupp (Cheyenne, Wyo.).
Team Canada will add Devon Mezei (Scandia, Alberta, Canada), Tyler Thompson (Black Diamond, Alberta, Canada) and Tanner Girletz (Cereal, Alberta, Canada). The trio joins Aaron Roy (Asquith, Saskatchewan, Canada) and Scott Schiffner (Strathmore, Alberta, Canada).
Team Brazil announced that Guilherme Marchi (Leme, SP, Brazil), Fabiano Vieira (Perola, PR, Brazil), Silvano Alves (Catanduva, SP, Brazil) and Edimundo Gomes (Brazil) will join Robson Palermo (Rio Branco, Acre, Brazil). Brazil was forced to replace Valdiron de Oliveira (Aparecida de Goiania, GO, Brazil) who is projected to miss the next few months with a shoulder injury.
Brothers Jared and Pete Farley (Kempsey, NSW, Australia) will be joined on Team Australia by Ben Jones (Sunset, Texas), David Kennedy (Kyogle, Australia), and Rhys Angland (Wagga Wagga, Australia).
Team Mexico has added Francisco Morales (Jrapunto, Gua, Mexico), Nile Lebaron (Chihuahua, Mexico) and Lorenozo Rios (Guanajuato, Mexico), who join Rocky McDonald (Colonia Juarez, Chihuahua, Mexico) and Gustavo Pedrero (Jalisco, Mexico). Hugo Pedrero (Leon, Mexico) declined Team Mexico’s invitation to participate in the 2010 World Cup due to injuries.
Teams can make adjustments to their rosters until April 12, after which changes will only be allowed due to injury.
Over the course of three nights, fans will witness world-class rides during six rounds of action, with all 25 riders competing in each round. This means that fans will have the opportunity to watch at least 50 show-stopping rides each night! The top three scores for each country in each round will count toward the team total. The team accumulating the most points during the six rounds will be declared the winner and walk away as the best bull riders in the world!

About McPhee's comment "It's hard to be loyal to the PBR when you can't see the it live". What kind of fan are you anyway? Fair-weathered fan, I'd say.
I've been a fan of the PBR for over 10 years and have yet to get to an event!!! I'd love to go, but money doesn't grow on trees and I can't afford it. Unfortunately, no events come close enough for me to get to. But, that doesn't mean I can't be loyal to the PBR.
And, by reading another post, Versus is back on DirectTV. What's your excuse now?

March 20, 2010I live in East Texas....we just got Versus back on Direct TV. Yeah....It's hard to stay connected without seeing the action. We get to watch our first event tonight. By reading the comments below, I seem to have missed a lot. I look forward to catching up.

March 19, 2010I would love to watch the World Cup but alas I have a contract with Directv who does not carry Versus anymore. I have a contract with Directv that would cost me big bucks to break. My wife and I were avid followers of the PBR. Now we get updates on the Internet and an occasional live event on other channels.
We are starting to lose interest in PBR since we can't watch it very often. The World Cup???? We were cut out of it last year since it was not telecast on Directv. It is getting hard to be loyal to the PBR when you can't see if live. -

March 19, 2010After reviewing the names on the World Team members, which some I never heard of. My question would be, do all members of each team have to be PBR qualified. And Does points and money earned matter to be considered. -

March 18, 2010Oops, forgot something (at work, have to think and type fast)
Thirdly, I truly believe that Adriano knows that JW and Justin don't think he's a moron. They are judging his move not to have Renuto on the team by their knowledge of Renuto's riding ability. They may not know the riders that Adriano picked well enough to make an informed opinion about them where as Adriano does. They weren't calling Adriano a moron, they feel, with the knowledge they have, that his pick may be moronic.
Fourthly(?), to the person that made the comment "like JW never fell off a bull". You must not pay attention, if watching on TV, when JW is announcing. He makes more comments about himself NOT being able to stay on then anyone else does!!! And, he never did 'fall' off a bull...he got BUCKED off!!! Big difference, and the pain would be different
Just be happy for the riders picked to represent their country. They are proud Cowboys and men and will serve their respective country with pride and diginty!!
GO TEAM USA!!!!! -
KarelC
March 18, 2010First and foremost...GO TEAM USA!!!!!!! We've got a good team going to the World Cup, so as fans, lets stand behind them as the Cowboy Nation just like we stood behind Ty on DWTS.
Secondly, I think that JW and Justin should give a lot of posters here the Moron Award! If anyone knows these riders, these men, these COWBOYS, it's the captains of the teams! They are more in tune with the abilities, the bulls than any of us fans. And so what if there are "unknowns" on the Brazilian team. I didn't recognize names from all the teams. Well, I did the USA team, but, that's where I'm from and pay the closest attention to. Just remember who has 3 World titles under his belt! I can't believe the dissing going on for the decisions of professional bull riders to have on their teams.
I also received the recorded message from Austin. Thought it was cool. I don't think the promo code has anything to do with sales being down, just making it a little more affordable. Wish I could take them up on it!!
I wish all teams the best but, I want Team USA to win on home ground.
Again...GO TEAM USA...KEEP THE TITLE HERE!!!! -

March 17, 2010P.S. I love ya JB!! Go team USA!!! -

March 17, 2010I think Adriano just wants some drama added to the show. Renato is a fan favorite and I feel sure he will be invited to ride. He is so much more skilled than those new guys. They really havent showed us much!If team Brazil wants to even have a shot at winning Adriano will put his pride in a box and bring Renato on board.
I too think Jody Newberry should have been picked I dont know if Jordan has enough miles on him to be experienced... but Yall know how I feel about JW. He is the south end of a north bound mule. I
He can tell you everything everybody else is doing wrong, like he never fell off a bull (shaking my head)
I'm sure he is a great man but he is the Simon Cowell of bull riding for me! Nails on a chalk board. Makes me more uncomfortable than a Garth Brooks fan at a Barry Manilow concert!
Yall have a great week!

March 17, 2010When was Hugo Pedrero so injured that he turned this down. He's seemed healthy enough riding PRCA and winning the CBR World Championship;riding again in all the CBR events this season (El Paso,Nashville(Feb 20th) and Ft Worth (which was this month.)
As for all the controversy we all have favorites we'd like to see in this event or riders we fel should be in it but we are acting like armchair quarterbacks.Captains have the right to choose whomever they think will help them win the event for their team. Go with the flow and enjoy the event and root for the team you want to see win.
I also got the pre-recorded Austin Meier call and it made me feel the same -advance sales can't be that good with a buy one get one free offer.
I didn't watch Justin and JW 's show but if whatis written here is true then I am dissappointed in Justin. Its not funny;and he should have more respect for Adriano. -

March 17, 2010Way off the subject here, but it's a question I have been unable to get an answer to for several years.
We've been PBR fan club members for many years. We love going to the finals. But the first year we intended to go, we couldn't find out how to get decent seats. In the end, we found someone who had tickets to good seats but couldn't attend, and bought theirs. The second year we tried again through PBR to get good seats, but couldn't. We bought half-decent seats through a re-seller, and paid through the nose for them. This year we tried again, WAY EARLY, and PBR said "Sorry - youv'e gotta buy your seats from Thomas & Mack." All they ever have is binocular seats.
Can anyone tell me how & when one goes about getting decent finals seats at a decent price?

March 16, 2010Muzman, I looked at the picutres Adriano posted on Twitter. I wouldn't read much into them.
Valdiron, Pim Rosa, Paulo, Paulo's son & Adriano were the only ones in the picture. So
actually, none of the riders from team Brazil were in the pictures. Just a group of friends
having a nice dinner. Even with all this turmoil going on I think the friendships & bonds
that the Brazilian riders have will remain strong. -

March 16, 2010Txpbrgal: We've opted not to attend the World Cup this year. We were hoping the Cup would be
tied into Cheyenne or some other event and we would have gone, but already planning on going
to the Finals so one trip to Vegas is enough for me. Hopefully the Cup will be in Canada next
year and we will go. I got a pre-recorded call yesterday from Austin Meier encouraging fans
to go to the Cup & support team USA and they even threw in a promo code to get half price
tickets (makes me think ticket sales aren't going that great).
Have been racking my brain trying to remember the last event we met you at....thinking maybe
it was Springfield? Anyways, I'm sure you'll have a great time and the events at Treasure
Island should be a blast. -

March 15, 2010If you look at recent pics uploaded by Adriano via twitter you can see that he had dinner at Valdiron s house with many of the other brazilians, some of which are on the brazilian cup team aswell as Paulo.Renato wasnt in the photo.Seems he's not in the "click" so to speak???Interesting I thought. -

March 15, 2010Sometimes when we get caught up in the moment we seem to think that judging of one group or rider or another is not fair. However, if you look at this past weekend in Glendale, 5 of the 15 to go to the short go were Brazilians, that's one third. Renato had the second highest marked score in round one, scored a 90+ in round two. Marchi and Palermo also had higher scores than JB Mauney, Newberry and many other riders.
If you look at the actual results, no one is getting short changed.
I think it just comes down to us fans wanting our favorites to win so bad. The World Cup should be an exciting time. I'm certain the teams will evolve as we get closer to the date. -
cofan
March 15, 2010I think that only Adriano knows the real reason Renato was not chosen for his team and until/unless that reason is made public we can only question his decision. Really hope Kody will be ok, maybe it's time to say enough riding through injuries, get fixed up and go from there. Good luck to all the teams in the world cup - hope everyone rides well with no injuries. -
barneyb2
March 15, 2010Jody is in I hope. Just wish Kody's injury wasn"t
the reason. Jordan Hupp?? Come on J.Dub. -
2tscowgirl
March 15, 2010Well, I think Kody's place on the USA Team is a ? mark for sure after last night's injury. I think JB's feeling a little lost with Newberry back. It seems Newberry may be taking JB's place as the "fair haired" one. I think that I don't care who rides for the USA because I'll be
rooting for the Brazilians. I think the World Cup is the only really fair judging done at
the PBR. One judge from each country. Have you noticed since that judge was suspended for 5
events over the Elliott Jacoby and JB incident that JB has been getting more honest scores.
They still don't judge the Brazilians fairly and that's why I root so hard for them. Bless
their hearts. They have to ride twice as good as any other country to win anything. I simply
don't understand why Renato wasn't chosen. Could be Adriano will regret that decision. I hope
and pray no one gets hurt, but I do want Brazil to win!!!!! -

March 15, 2010Well.. hope Team Mexico make final adjustments, Hector Cardona should be in, I don't know the reason he's not in the team. I also think in Luis Villarreal and Poncho Orozco, I know from a good source they were in the list form the captains (except for Luis), I don't know why they didn't stick to it -

March 15, 2010JW-ND, you said:
"One short note about Team Brazil. I think that with Renato being a fan favorite he definitely
would be an audience draw. People are not that interested in watching an unknown. An if
attendance is what you want a lot of unknowns is not good."
I pretty much agree with everything you said, but I think attendance will be fine, because it's in the USA and plenty of the "foreigners" (for lack of a better term) have fans here. However, I don't think most fans want to watch an entire team of "unknowns," but maybe they're only unknown to us/ I was wondering whether or not the other countries involved consider most of our (PBR) riders "unknowns"? -

March 14, 2010Well Adriano aluded to it tonight when he said that Renato disagreed with the bulls that were
chosen for the individual riders at last years World Cup. One would think that the riders as
as team would come together & decide who would get on what bull, but from what Adriano said
tonight, he was the coach & he had the final say. There's a little more to the story but that
is what Adriano has decided to make public at this point so that is all I will comment on at
this time.
I have to tend to agree with Renato.....you are there as a team, not an individual, so one
would think that the team (coach included) would come together & decide who was getting on
which bull. But knowing Adriano is the "Alpha Male" as my other half put it, the final
decision would be his and his alone.
The case can be made for or against Ednei being on the world cup but if I were a betting
person, hell would freeze over before Adriano would invite Ednei to be on the team.
Hands spoon back to Webpbr....lol Thanks for letting me borrow it! :) -

March 14, 2010muzman - On the PBR Now show, on RFD TV, JW and Justin have a segment called "Moron That", which came from when they would say "more on that later". During Thursday night's show, near the end of the show, they had there "Moron That" segment. They discussed the decision that Adriano made not to take both Ednei and Renato. They both said that you could make the case for and against Ednei, but there is no reasoning about not taking Renato. Justin then said that he was giving Adriano the "Moron" award for his decision. Now, joking or not, obviously both disagree about not taking Renato. I don't know if anyone has said they agree with Adriano. So ......... my comments seem tame compared to some others. -
muzman
March 14, 2010haha did justin call adriano a moron? We dont get the live broadcast down under.....bummer i missed it.What was the context of the comment??? -
webpbr
March 14, 2010rez - Wow, holding me to a higher standard than Justin McBride. Now I know how much you love Justin, but you but if you can cut Justin slack for calling Adriano a moron, you can cut me some slack for saying that I think Adriano needs to be replaced as Captain/Coach. :) -
reznibd
March 14, 2010webpbr - guess I hold you to higher standards than, say, some of the announcers, because they're filling time and are usually joking around. Like I said, though, I cringe at some of the things they say too, even in jest. I have been accused of being too tenderhearted for my own good. Maybe it's the male v. female thing--sorry--I'm a nurturer. What can I say? :) -
reznibd
March 14, 2010Yes, people are entitled to their opinions, muzman, but do they have to convey them in such hurtful manners sometimes? No, I don't think so.
No, I think that I'll continue "to be a baby" as you put it, because it means that I have a heart, but thanks anyhow :) By the way, that's my opinion. -
alamo
March 14, 2010I would have liked to see Jody Newberry on the U.S. team, too. -

March 14, 2010With Valdiron injured, Renato would be my choice to replace him. -

March 14, 2010reznibd-If you're often offended on the bolgs, get off and dont read them, ppl are entitled to an opinion.if it differs from yours doesnt mean its wrong/right.Stop being a baby and just state your opinion and get on with life.In the end...does it really matter?
Bring back the biff I say!!!! (if your an aussie you know what im talking about!LOL) -
webpbr
March 14, 2010rez - Some good and wise words. Several things, the "public" fight that I am talking about is the article by KRC and Adriano says that Valdiron is a cry baby and Renato is negative. If you will notice, I never said that Adriano is a bad guy or bad person. All of my comments are directed at his words that have been put in print or that HE has said on TV. My comments are no differnet than that of some of the former riders and announcers. As I stated before, JW and Justin gave the "Moron award" for the week to Adriano for not taking Renato. I guess it is ok for them to call Adriano a moron, but if a fan says that they don't think it may be the riders but the Captain/Coach then somehow the fan is the moron.
Lastly, I have never called any riders names, or said nasty personal things about any rider, including JB. Writing something negative and writing something nasty and personal are two different things. Some people can not tell the difference. When their favorite acts in a manner that seems contrary to what they believe, they excuse it or ignore it. When a fan acts contrary to what they believe, they jump on it. I am not talking about you, but some others. -
reznibd
March 14, 2010webpbr - yes, I remember hearing that, but not sure if it was in an article or if it was on TV. I do remember, myself, commenting awhile back about Adriano not mincing words or being brutally frank and have since said it again, recently.
Having said that, though, I often find that a lot of the riders and announcers say things to one another or about one another that makes me sort of cringe from time to time and, although, we as bloggers/fans are not directly involved, we all say some awfully tough things from time to time, too. Personally, I don't like it coming from anyone, anytime. Words are really cutting and hurtful and I would hope that all of us would be or try to be more courteous to one another, especially when it seems to be the hardest thing to do at that particular moment.
I try really hard not to hold it against people when they offend me (and I'm often offended on the blogs), so I do try to cut people some slack and so I am with Adriano, because I believe him to be a fine and caring human being, a man of faith and an awesome bull rider/cowboy, yet I do think that he could choose his words a bit more wisely--as could we all. It's just so easy to say what we think before we consider the others' feelings.
When you say "public fight," whose public fight is it? Certainly not the bloggers'. No, it is between Renato and Adriano--period. Sure, we can carry on about it and in doing so make it something that quite possibly it isn't. What I do know is that Adriano has fans, Renato has fans and no fan likes his or her rider put down in public. I don't like it for any of the cowboys and see no need to do so--ever. Just my rambling opinion, for what its's worth :)
Of course, none of us knows the behind-the-scenes story and there is always more than meets the eye, you know? -
webpbr
March 14, 2010no name (since you want to just leave a comment and not put your sign on) - I don't think I am the Captain/Coach of any of the riders. I am not the one that is picking or not picking based on who I am getting along with and not the best riders. Also, I do know some personal things about the riders, but choose not to put it on here, because it would not be right. Most of what I comment on is what other people see as well and what other people comment on as well. I know several people that comment on here and say not to say negative things, then they go on other blogs and say negative things about some of the riders. JW says what he thinks, but is able to put any personal feeling aside and do what is best for the team. I am not sure Adriano can put his personal feelings aside. -
March 14, 2010webpbr
"Adriano has made it a public fight with his comments, instead of keepeing it "in house", which is what you should do."
This coming from you the one that is always stiring the pot. -
JW-ND
March 14, 2010One short note about Team Brazil. I think that with Renato being a fan favorite he definitely
would be an audience draw. People are not that interested in watching an unknown. An if
attendance is what you want a lot of unknowns is not good. -
webpbr
March 14, 2010rez - I agree, we need to hear from Adriano. But wasn't there an article that quoted Adriano and he said about Renato being "negative". In otherwords there have been quotes thrown out there for our consumption, with no further explanation from Keith or Adriano. If Renato was "negative" it was between them. Adriano has made it a public fight with his comments, instead of keepeing it "in house", which is what you should do. -
reznibd
March 14, 2010I think that I heard McKee say last night that he wanted to hear from Adriano directly as to why he didn't choose Renato for Team Brazil. Also, heard McBride say that he knows Adriano pretty well and is fairly certain he's trying to put together a "winning" team this year. I think last year's defeat in Brazil with all of the heavy favorites was simply too much to take and so he's going down a different path. Still, we neeed to hear what Brazil's team captain has to say, because everything else is merely speculation.
I was proud of JB last night in his interview with Leah. She asked if he considered turning down J-Dub since he seemed to be playing cat & mouse with JB, but in JB's usual, respectful and honest answer, he said: "No." Instead, he said he understood the delay and just went with it. No one has to tell JB when he's not doing his job and no one is more of a critic than he, himself. If asked, I fairly confident that JB would always ride for his country, regardless of nagging injuries. -
webpbr
March 14, 2010bbwf - It is not just the fans that are second guessing, it is also the announcers, former riders, including world champions, and current captians of other teams. So the critiqueing, as you put it, is coming from just about everybody. By the way, what has the fact that the PBR has come a long way got to do with some questionable decisions? I don't see the connection. If we use your theory, we could not question anything in life that has grown over X number of years. Such as our government, companies or sports teams. -
bbwf
March 14, 2010All this complaining and second guessing. How about we focus on how far the PBR has come and how amazing it is we can have a world event at all. As far as the team leaders decisions. Come on... when I see any of us with the riding experience and the knowledge that those guys have then we can step up and make the right choice for them. I don't see that happening anytime soon. I for one will be sitting back and enjoying the event. Not critiqueing it. I hope everyone can look back for a second and remember how it was at the beginning and be grateful that our riders have earned their way to the world cup. Good Luck to ALL !!!! -

March 14, 2010OH by the way, JB is at the top position in the PBR right now. You cannot p!@# up that chance to have him on a World Cup Team and was last year the best rider in the World Cup.
My, my how quick the naysayers are. -

March 14, 2010JB had a lousy bull last night and did a good job as usual.
As far as Adriano, don't judge a great bull rider and leader until you know the truth............ -

March 14, 2010I don't thing JB should have been chosen. Neither should Jody. He hasn't been back long enough to earn the spot. He was the darling several years ago - judges turned their back to slaps etc. I can see it coming again. -

March 14, 2010I'm not saying J.W. didn't do a great job picking the team. I know its got to be hard to choose 5 guys when you got about 10 who deserve to go.
I was just saying that Jody definitely deserves to go. And yes, reznibd, I know that he can change the roster up until one week before the event... but c'mon, you really think he is going to "kick" a guy off the team??? Just doesn't seem like J.W.'s character to do so.
The only way I believe the roster will be changed is if (God forbid) someone gets injured. I for one do NOT want to see that happen! -

March 14, 2010J-Dub can choose or lose anyone he wants to up until a week before the event--that means anyone, folks, so no one should feel over confident--no one. All any of us can do is watch and hope for the best of the team he put(s) together. J-Dub has chosen correctly, apparently, the last two years, so perhaps we should trust his judgment:) I, for one, am glad that Kody agreed to be ther this year. I'm also glad that JB will be there as he was last years MVP, wears #2 on his back from 2009 and has been ranked in the top three this whole season.
I liked what Kody said last night--he plans to go and "kick some butt." Right on! I suspect that is JB's plan along with the rest of the team. Definitely some serious "butt kickers" there!:) -

March 14, 2010I don't agree with Adriano's choice of not picking Renato. Also JW should have chosen Jody over JB, he's been riding more consistent then JB has lately. -

March 14, 2010I can't see why J.W. Hart didn't pick Jody Newberry....
To me, he would have been the best choice out of the final 2 or 3 selections for team USA. -
