LAS VEGAS, Nev. (November 1, 2009) - The Professional Bull Riders, Inc. (PBR) invaded the Thomas & Mack Center on the UNLV campus for the third round of the 2009 PBR Built Ford Tough World Finals.  On the last night of competition in the 1st weekend of the event, 2008 PBR World Finals Event Champion Robson Palermo (Rio Branco, Acre, Brazil) rode the bull, Black Pearl, owned by Ravenscroft/Boyd-Floyd Bull Company, for 92.25 points and the round victory.  The Brazilian superstar rode his third consecutive bull and currently sits second in the event average with 266.75 points.  Palermo is one of only four riders to conquer all three of his bulls over the first three days.

“I’ve seen that bull a couple times at PBR events over the year,” Palermo stated at the post-event press conference.  “Chad Berger (stock contractor) told me to pick him and I’d win the round.  He was really rank and strong and quick.  I was so excited to ride him.”

Current world no. 1 bull rider Kody Lostroh (Longmont, Colo.) took on the bull, Copp Hou, owned by Lightning C Cattle Company, for 91 points and a second place finish.  Third place went to Brazilian rookie Thiago Paguioto (Itajobi, SP, Brazil) who rode Julio Moreno/Richard Oliveira’s bull, Bushwacker, for 89.75 points.  Finishing in fourth place was Edimundo Gomes (Brazil) who made the eight second whistle on the bull, Moon, of Homestead Genetics for 89.25 points while Valdiron de Oliviera (Aparecida de Goiania, GO, Brazil) rounded out the top five with an 88.75 point ride on the bull, Deja Blu, owned by Teague Bucking Bulls, LLC.

The 2009 PBR Built Ford Tough World Finals are now halfway over with the first three rounds complete.  Four of forty-four riders have ridden all three bulls and the top 3 riders in the world are all within less than a thousand points of each other.  Next weekend’s competition begins on Thursday, November 5, as the world’s best bull riders take on the toughest bulls PBR has to offer as they compete for the ultimate title in the sport of bull riding—the 2009 World Championship!

The PBR Built Ford Tough World Finals airs LIVE on VERSUS on Oct. 30-Nov. 1 and Nov. 5-7 and LIVE on NBC on Nov. 8.  Visit www.pbrnow.com to view the current broadcast schedule and consult local listings to verify all show times.

Enterprise Rent-A-Car Ride with the Best Bonus

As the winner of round two at the 2009 PBR Built Ford Tough World Finals in Las Vegas, Nev., Pete Farley (Kempsey, AUS) was eligible to compete for the $5,000 Enterprise Rent-A-Car “Ride with the Best” bonus during round three.  Farley did not make the eight second whistle on the bull, Top Notch; therefore, the stock contractor, Martinez Bucking Bull, LLC, took the $5,000 bonus.  As the round three winner, reigning World Finals Event Champion Robson Palermo (Rio Branco, Acre, Brazil) will compete for the bonus in round four.

All the riders are trying hard and I pray they all stay safe. They are all total gentlemen and have great respect for each other as well as the sport and the PBR organization. Too bad the fans don't show the same respect for the judges, all the riders, and the PBR organization.
Relax and enjoy one of the greatest events in bullriding history. Be a good sport and stop complaining.
Support your favorite or why not support them all because this is truely the toughest sport on earth to win at. Please stop degrading individual riders. They ALL deserve our respect. May the best rider win!!!!!

Just got back from Vegas! Well all was well out there except the PBR. WHat is happening to this sport. JB in the first round got a better score then Josh? not even close. notice he always gets the win by 1/4 point. saturday was great rides. all ACTUALLY earned and not given. Then Sunday Yet another reride for JB. WOW!! This is out of hand. it's time to switch sports. I know all sports have small favoritism but this is OUT OF CONTROL!!

kodysmom: I think having grey hair is one of the prerequisites for having a son who is a bull rider (especially one who is in contention for the big buckle -- hope he gets it!).

    GO KODY!

Coverage is getting weird. I also had Bucked, but only after the full round of the finals. I guess the CBS thing was good for people who have been cut out by Directv (I switched to the local cable because I needed my PBR fix), but it was frustrating to wait a whole day to see the end of the round. It was tempting to sign on to PBRNow and see who won, but I resisted.

What do people think about JB's reride. It was probably deserved, but for us Kody fans frustrating. Actually I'm at heart a Zach Brown fan and hate to see him hurting. But among the realistic contenders for the buckle Kody is my guy.

livelylane: Curiouser and curiouser. I live in Seattle, so you'd think I'd get the same VS coverage you did. Anyways, as I said earlier, I'm so sorry you had to miss so much of Round 3. Hope you're able to see everything next weekend!

"Bucked" came on and showed an intevies with JB and other riders for an hour then PBR was on for another 1hr and 1/2 same riders as the first coverage it abruptly stopped I think about the time Kasey Hayes got knocked out. This first 1/2 hour was comentary with national anthem, etc. Yep it showed the first hour of rides I know at least 2 times then came on again one more time later (I did not stay up to watch) Hope next weekend it not the same....Frustrated in Wash. State...:(

livelylane -- That's awful that you didn't get to see the end. It was really exciting. I know a lot of rides are posted on PBRtv.

kodysmom -- Been keeping Kody in my prayers and been cheering extra loud for him! So glad he is riding well and doesn't seem to be hurting afterward. Looking forward to seeing the last four days in person in Vegas!

    GO KODY !!!

livelylane: VS in your area showed only the first hour? That's odd...I was able to see all ~2.5 hours of Round 3, and I didn't realize that VS coverage varied from region to region. What came on after the first hour of Round 3? I'm really sorry to hear you missed some of the coverage -- hopefully they'll post clips of many of the rides online so you can still see them!

Thanks PBR for remembering the fans....I never did get to see the top riders lastnight on VS. If it were not for the internet I would not know even today (Monday) who won round 3 and I watched it on VS two times but they only showed the 1st hour.....boohoo I am not happy with the broadcast this year.

Also, regarding points, if there is a tie, they take the total points for the postions and divide them between the riders. For example, in the first round, there was a 3 way tie for sixth. The riders are then shown to have finished 6/8 (sixth, seventh, and eight postions are taken up). They take the points for the sixth place, 150, the seventh place 100, then the eight place 50 and the add them up, which equals 300 points. They then divide the 300 points between the riders, which is 100 points to each rider. I hope that wasn't confusing.

Blog111 you are RIGHT! It would be very helpful if fans could understand the way that the go-round points, bonus points, etc. are awarded at the finals! I have A LOT of people asking me because they're trying to keep up with the tight race! Being at the event makes it very difficult to know what's going on with points. Last year I was in Vegas but had to text someone who was watching on TV to find out what was going on with points. This year I'm thinking about bringing my laptop to calculate it myself :)

    GO KODY!!!

Keith Ryan Cartwright- PLEASE write an article explaining how the points work for the finals rounds... we know they are worth 400 points for 1st, but does it diminish by 40 each position until 10th? I can't make my math match what is on the website. There are 3 races going on: World Champion, World Finals and Rookie- How do the points break down for The World Finals??? I've read it's 2500 for winning, but are there points for 2nd, 3rd through 10th??? This is very important to us, as when we are at the event we don't have access to the web so we need to be able to add up the points ourselves...
