Lostroh and Troubadour team up for winning ride – again
LAS VEGAS (November 6, 2009) - He might have to get permission from his wife, but Kody Lostroh is mulling bringing a new family member home from the Professional Bull Riders World Finals.
This one just happens to weigh 1,500 pounds, and goes by the name of Troubadour.
For the third time this season and fourth time overall, Lostroh and Troubadour of Julio Moreno Bucking Bulls have teamed up for a ride in the 90s – the latest one a 91.25-point ride that gave him the Round 5 victory on Friday night.
Just this year, the dance team of Lostroh and Troubadour have won the cowboy more than $127,000.
“Maybe after the Finals, I’ll just see if he can come live with me for a little while,” said Lostroh, who has led the PBR world standings virtually all season.
It was the second consecutive round win for Lostroh, of Longmont, Colo., and allowed him to stretch his lead over second-place J.B. Mauney to 732.50 points in the race for the PBR World Championship.
He said this trip on Troubadour was different than any of the previous trips and he came much closer to bucking off than the earlier rides.
“The previous three times, he’d spun to the right,” Lostroh said. “So tonight when he spun left, he still bucked just as hard but it was just a little different feel. That bull kind of backs up when he’s spinning, backs up under himself and wants to pull you over his head.
“He got me in a little more trouble today. I about fell off of him, but he was still fun to ride.”
Mauney also posted a successful ride on Friday, conquering Ricky Bobby for 89.25 points to maintain his lead in the average for the World Finals event title. Only Mauney, Lostroh and Brazilian Valdiron de Oliviera have ridden all five of their bulls thus far.
Mauney leads the event standings with 447.25 points, with Lostroh second at 444.75 and de Oliviera third with 442.0 points.
Like Lostroh and Troubadour, Mauney and Ricky Bobby, owned by H.D. page and Bill and Betty Morrison, have a successful history as well. Mauney has ridden Ricky Bobby successfully three times with all three rides in the 90s.
Friday’s score was an 89, and Mauney said he was glad to get by the bull, which was trying to jerk him down to the inside of the spin.
“I beat him around (the corner) a hair too much from where I would have really liked to have been, and he was pulling me off in there,” Mauney said. “I was looking at the tip of his right horn the whole time. It worked out.”
De Oliveira kept his hopes for the event title alive with an 88.5-point ride on Pearl Snap of Boyd/Floyd Bull Company.
Caleb Sanderson of Kissimmee, Fla., finished second in Round 5, just behind Lostroh after riding the notorious bull Chicken on a Chain of Jeff Robinson/Mike Tedesco/Larry the Cable Guy for 90.75 points. The ride earned Sanderson $18,000.
Austin Meier of Kinta, Okla., finished third in the found, riding Far West of Martinez Bucking Bulls for 90 points to finish third and win $12,000.
McKennon Wimberly of Cool, Texas was fourth with an 89.75-point ride on Yellow Jacket Jr., good for $10,000 and Renato Nunes of Buritama, Brazil was fifth with an 89.5-point ride on Tahonta’s Shadow, good for $5,000.
Tonight’s Round 6 gets under way at 6 p.m. ET.
