LAS VEGAS, Nev. (November 7, 2009) - The Professional Bull Riders, Inc. (PBR) continued on its quest to crown a 2009 PBR World Champion at the PBR Built Ford Tough World Finals in Las Vegas, Nev.  Friday night’s competition featured the rank pen of bulls including nine of the ten bulls who are competing for the 2009 World Champion bull title and the action in the arena matched the electricity in the air of the Thomas & Mack Center crowd.

In the end, Colorado superstar Kody Lostroh (Longmont, Colo.) claimed the round five victory—his second in a row—with a 91.25 point ride on a familiar foe, Troubadour, owned by Julio Moreno Bucking Bulls.  In their third match-up of 2009, Lostroh conquered the 2009 World Champion Bull contender again and collected the $25,000 check.  The current world no. 1 rider extended his lead slightly on North Carolina’s J.B. Mauney (Mooresville, N.C.) and sits second in the average with a total of 444.75 points on five bulls.

“The previous three times, he’d (Troubadour) spun to the right,” Lostroh said. “So tonight when he spun left, he still bucked just as hard, but it was just a little different feel. That bull kind of backs up while he’s spinning, backs up under himself, and wants to pull you over his head. It all worked out good though."

He added, "God built me and designed me to ride bulls and it's something I love to do. Through it, I get to meet a whole lot of people and pour God's love into other people's hearts. I want it to be about him and not about me. That He's glorified and not me."

Florida young gun Caleb Sanderson (Kissimmee, Fla.) rode the 2007 PBR World Champion Bull, Chicken on a Chain, owned by Jeff Robinson/Mike Tedesco/Larry the Cable Guy/Bar None, for 90.75 points.  Not only did Sanderson pick up a check for $18,000, but he added the first 90-point ride of his career to his resume and made his second consecutive qualified ride at the 2009 World Finals.  U.S. Border Patrol Rider Austin Meier (Kinta, Okla.) claimed third place in the round after scoring 90 points on the bull, Far West of Martinez Bucking Bull, LLC.  Meier pocketed $12,000 for his efforts.  “Cool” cowboy McKennon Wimberly (Cool, Texas) rode Yellow Jacket, Jr., owned by Dakota Rodeo/Clay Struve/Julie Rosen, for 89.75 points and $10,000 while back-flippin Brazilian Renato Nunes (Buritama, SP, Brazil) logged his first qualified ride of the Finals and scored 89.5 points on 4C’s/Sills/Vaughn’s bull, Tahonta’s Shadow.  Nunes added $5,000 to his bank account.

The race for the ultimate title in bull riding—the 2009 PBR World Championship—continues on strong as the top 2 bull riders in the world, Kody Lostroh and J.B. Mauney, have matched each other, bull for bull.  Each man has ridden all five of his bulls and they sit only 2.5 points apart in the World Finals average.  Only two long rounds along with the Built Ford Tough Championship Round remain, and in two days, PBR will crown a new World Champion who will be rewarded the $1 million bonus courtesy of Ford and the coveted gold buckle!

The PBR Built Ford Tough World Finals airs LIVE on VERSUS Oct. 30-Nov. 1 and Nov. 5-7 and LIVE on NBC on Nov. 8.  Visit www.pbrnow.com to view the current broadcast schedule and consult local listings to verify all show times.

That's another thing. They should stick to Versus coverage because we will not see the whole round 7 on NBC. They are only covering 2 Hours and Versus needs 2 and half hours to show one round that would not included the championship round 8.

Who is supposed to be updating the site for fantasy picks? It's almost 5:30PM EST and still not posted. They had to have drafted them by now.

Shannon, you had my mom worried. I checked the local listings for Kansas City, and it is scheduled for 3 - 5. I remember one year, (I think 2004) round 7 and the short go were scheduled for NBC, or CBS (don't remember which) and at the end of the 2 hours, they announced they would be switching the remaining broadcast to move to Versus. I only hope this doesn't happen again as there are so many that no longer get VS (ie, Direct TV viewers).

I just checked the TV listings and found that the NBC affiliate here in Seattle is scheduling only 1 hour for PBR coverage on Sunday. What on earth? How do you cram a long round and the short round into 1 hour? I so hope the schedule is wrong, since the TV schedule here on the PBR website lists the coverage as 2 hours long. Does anybody know any details on this?

Round 5 was great and the stats are in the record book and are being carved in granite as we speak. Then I enter the "BUT IF" factor... But if Brian Canter had not made his bone head grab on Major Payne at 7.93 ,I belive he would be sporting the round 5 buckle.Come on Brian stay off motorcycles and wait for the buzzer to go off. This is the PBR finals and I want to see you in the $$$. P.S. Go J.B. 8 for 8 on Code Blue 8th round.

I was at the news conference last night. Some observations. Anything that I quote, I will paraphrase, because I did not have a pen, paper, or tape recorder.

First question: "Tell us something new or different from yesterday"

Kody said his elbow is a little sore, he put ice on it, and it will be ok. Only 3 more bulls to go. He thanked God for putting him in the postition he is in.

"What about the people that have been doubting you". Kody's response, "People have been doubting me all year. That is fine with me. I know what I can do and let them keep doubting and I will keep on doing what I do"

Kody said, "God has put me in this postition for a reason and I want Him to get all the glory, not me." Reporter ask, "So why do you think that he put you here. Kody's response "God gave me the ablility and love to ride bulls and give me the opportunity to reach more people for Him."

Do you get mad and throw stuff when you get upset? Kody's response, "No, I did that a couple of times when I was younger. I didn't feel better afterwords, so I didn't see the point in doing anymore".

Near the end a reporter asked this question, "JB seems to be the "poster boy" (those were his exact words) for the PBR. Does that bother you." Kody's response, "No, If that is what they want to do, that is fine with me. It takes the pressure off of me and puts it on someone else". I talked to the reporter afterwords and asked him some questions and he gave me his reasons why he thought the PBR was trying to promote JB, but I am not going to share those reasons.

My point on the last paragraph is not to stir the pot. However, I just wanted to say that a reporter, that is not with the PBR and is with local newspaper has seen the PBR pushing JB. This is not anyting against JB, it is just an observation that a non fan of any of the riders can see that JB is the PBR favored rider. JB gets alot of flack for this. If the PBR would just promote the top riders and not get involved with picking a rider, I think we would all be better off, including JB.

Sorry, I know this is long.

Kody can ride other bulls but he is going for the championship he is doing no differnt than the rest that is why they set this drafe up I do think it would be better for the finals if it were all a draw make it more fair for everyone but that is the way it is JB picked a bull that he has been on before so did Val so the draft is there what would anyone wanting the champoinship do

How is Ryan Mc? His Lungs? Is he OK after his ride?

Wish Kody would pick another bull. It makes him look like he can/will only ride one bull.

Kody's bearing down and proving that he's true world champion material; J.B.'s right there with him, and with so many points for the average win, it sure doesn't get any closer or better than this!
Keep an eye on Caleb Sanderson - he's done real well in the SSBR, which is a tough proving ground. Great to see him breaking out here at the Finals.

It was cool to see the way those guys handled the pressure. Marchi, unfortunately, fell apart, but he's already a champ. Kody and JB are both extraordinary riders. I imagine this won't be the last time you see these two battling it out for the world title. Them two guys seem to have totally opposite personalities, but they bring out the best in each other when it comes to bull ridin. Congratulations in advance to Kody for winning the world!!!!

Great rides last night, guys and bulls! Keep on keep'n on, JB. It ain't over, as they say, "until the fat lady sings." She ain't sing'n yet, JB! You're doing great and giving your fans quite a Finals. We respect and admire you so much. You do NC proud. Congrats to Kody for his back-to-back wins--no small feat! Hope you can ride tonight, Ryan, but a hoof to an already injured chest . . . whoa, it's worrisome to your fans like me.

Well isn't this strange an article that hasn't had comments yet from the JB haters, Kody haters or just plain haters that seem to hate each other. Great ride Kody, Great ride JB & each & everyone of them! Isn't it time for everyone to just chill, quit acting so "high school" & sit back & enjoy the bullriding. Each one of these young men is very special in their own way & if any of us think we could ride better, act better or interview better then its time to get a PBR card & prove it. I myself would love to be out there riding with each & everyone of them! Best of luck to all tonight!
