The BFTS makes uninterrupted stops from now through the end of April, promising bull riding fans one of the most intense and grueling races in national sports to decide who will wear the million dollar PBR crown. This weekend represents the second PBR double header of the season for the west coast. The tour leaves Anaheim and rolls into Phoenix, Arizona's Chase Field on Sunday, February 12 for the Phoenix Invitational. The Anaheim Classic aired live on Saturday, February 11 on OLN, while the Phoenix Invitational will be broadcast on OLN on Sunday, February 12 at 8 p.m. ET. Of his fateful final round meeting with Salt River Rodeo's Sheep Dip, Lee said, "It was a rematch for me against Sheep Dip. I had him in Denver (in January) and he bucked me off pretty quick. This time I made sure he was standing good in the chute when I got out and I just didn't think about anything else but riding him. I nodded my head and did what God told me to do."
Lee's unwavering focus has resulted in $1,837,985 in PBR career earnings to date and a riding percentage this season of 64%. Lee made history in 2004 when he became the only PBR athlete to ever win the world championship and the World Finals event title simultaneously, and fought his way back from shoulder surgery in 2005 to earn a trip to the World Finals.
Lee explained that his preparation during the week consists of a combination of training techniques that are designed to enhance his performance. "I practice a chute procedure while horseback and workout on my bucking machine. I was kind of mad at myself after last weekend so I worked hard all week and it paid off," added Lee.
Despite finishing out of the money in the preliminary go rounds of the Anaheim Classic, Lee battled his way through Built Ford Tough Championship Round action to secure the win. Competing 11th in the bucking order, Lee was one of six bull riders to make the finals with qualified scores on two bulls. Lee tackled Sheep Dip to steal the lead from Jared Farley (Kempsey, NSW, AUS), who took center stage during final round action with 91 championship points aboard Diamond K Bucking Bulls' Jack Hammer. Four men remained in the line up to challenge Lee's cumulative score of 254 points on three bulls. However, with the likes of Taylor Made Bucking Bulls' Pudd, Pandora's Box, and Smokeless Wardance in the mix, the bull power ultimately prevailed and scores of zero were posted across the board.
Noticeably absent from the event finals was Briscoe, who was sidelined by a concussion sustained in round two. The injury did not keep him from overtaking the coveted number one spot in the current PBR world standings. The New Mexico high school senior is studying via home school courses, which enables him to travel to PBR events. Briscoe also currently leads the race for the $25,000 Cabela's World's Foremost Ride bonus since he has achieved the highest score of 2006 tour action to date; 93.25 points aboard D&H and Teague Bucking Bulls' legendary bull Mossy Oak Mudslinger.
