In what was by far the biggest win of his two year Professional Bull Riders’ (PBR) career, Kasey Hayes (Liberal, Kan.), 20, dominated the Tulsa Express PBR Classic presented by Osage Million Dollar Elm Casino event for $36,198 in earnings. Stop number 24 on the elite Built Ford Tough Series presented by Wrangler (BFTS) took place at the Tulsa Convention Center on July 21-23. For Hayes, an alternate who substituted into the event for an injured rider, Tulsa represents not only his first tour win, but amazingly enough his inaugural BFTS competition.

The event airs on OLN on Monday, July 24 at 8 p.m. (EST). Please visit http://www.pbrnow.com/media/tv/ for a complete PBR broadcast schedule.

Hayes topped three out of four bulls for a 260.75 point cumulative score to edge fellow rookie, J.B. Mauney (Mooresville, N.C.) by a 3.75 point margin. Hayes was one of just three men to cover three bulls during the course of the four go round event. Despite falling victim to Frontier, Steiner, and Teague’s sensational bull Just A Dream during Built Ford Tough Championship Round action, Hayes was the leader going into final round action and cinched the event title when 13 of the 15 final round competitors failed to ride. Just A Dream, incidentally, earned the $1,250 Salem National Lease Bull of the Event bonus with a score of 46.25 points. Just A Dream earned the same distinction during stop #23 in Dallas where he bested a formidable roster of bull talent to be named the top performing bull of the event.

During the 2005 season, Hayes earned a total of $7,094 in the PBR, and prior to Tulsa had accumulated $42,104 in the U.S. Smokeless Tobacco Company Challenger Tour standings.

While Hayes engineered the overall title, it was two-time PBR World Champion Chris Shivers (Jonesville, La.) who stole the show during final round action with 91 points aboard Andrews Rodeo Company’s Fender Bender. Shivers qualified for the Built Ford Tough Championship Round in the 15th position and consequently it was mathematically impossible for him to overtake the event leaders.

Sean Willingham (Summerville, Ga.) staged a world standings upset, overtaking the formerly number two ranked Adriano Moraes (Cachoeira Paulista, Sao Paulo, Brazil) for the current runner up position. Guilherme Marchi (Leme, SP, BZ) remains anchored in the top spot, extending his lead to 1,171.75 series points over second. Moraes is in relentless pursuit of an unprecedented third million dollar PBR world title, but failed to cover his second and third go round draws.

The American Bucking Bull inc. (ABBI) held an ABBI Classic in conjunction with the first go-round of PBR action on Friday night. The best three and four year old bucking bulls in the country challenged the top 45 PBR bull riders. Stray Kitty, owned by Page and Teague/Buck, tied for top honors with Sonny Williams/J Bar W Ranch’s Superman. The two bulls scored 90.25 points. Stray Kitty was also the second highest marked bull of the entire Tulsa event with 45.75 points awarded by the officials.

The Dickies National Championship Bullfighting competition took place in conjunction with the first two preliminary go rounds. Dusty Tuckness and Toby Inman each achieved 170 points on two bulls to split top honors in the $10,000 added American freestyle bullfighting contest.

Cabela's World's Foremost Ride: Chris Shivers (Jonesville, La.) overtook Travis Briscoe (Edgewood, N.M.) in Phoenix for the lead in the race for the $25,000 Cabela's World's Foremost Ride bonus. The bonus will be awarded to the rider who earns the highest score during the 2006 Built Ford Tough Series season. Shivers posted a 93.75 point score in Phoenix during final round action aboard Taylor Made Bucking Bulls' infamous Smokeless Wardance.
