NFL's Ochocinco prepares for his foray into bull riding

By PBR

Ty Murray has never been one to mince words.

“Your chances are zero,” the nine-time World Champion told Chad Ochocinco Friday night. “I’m going to help give you a fighting chance.”

Last week, the All-Pro Cincinnati receiver took to his Twitter account and told his nearly 2 million followers that he was going to ride a bull in Duluth, Ga., this weekend. A few days later, PBR COO Sean Gleason responded with a challenge: Get on a bull for $10,000, and get a brand-new Ford F-150 if you make the whistle.

Ochocinco accepted.

Friday, he flew to Duluth, and watched the first two rounds of the Lucas Oil Invitational presented by Cooper Tires firsthand.

“Now that I’ve seen it, I’m in awe,” Ochocinco told an ESPN film crew. “It’s a whole different ballgame.”

In an interview posted on www.pbr.com, the prolific Twitter user admitted that he’s not thinking half the time he Tweets, and isn’t sure what to think about Saturday night’s matchup with Deja Blu.

“I don’t know what’s going on in my mind half the time with some of the stuff that I do,” he said.

Ochocinco arrived in Atlanta at 7:30 p.m. ET and was met by Murray.

The two arrived at the Gwinnett Center in time for the start of the event. They spent time in the locker room and behind the chutes, where Ochocinco saw the sport up close for the first time.

Afterward he admitted that he’s out of element, but is “willing to do any challenge.”

“I’m just having fun and I’m doing things that I would never be able to do, for one, if there wasn’t a lockout,” Ochocinco said, “so I’m just having fun. I’m in the best shape of my life right now, as far as training, getting ready for the season, so why not?

“You only live once.”

He called Friday’s experience unbelievable, but said, “Ty has put me in a comfort zone.”

He and Murray plan to drill Saturday morning and again in the afternoon in preparation for his matchup with Deja Blu, which is slated to take place during the intermission between rounds.

Ochocinco, 33, is a 10-year veteran of the NFL. He’s a six-time Pro Bowler and has twice been named to the All-Pro first team. Since being selected by the Bengals in the second round of the 2001 draft, No. 85 has not only performed on the field, but has become widely known for his eccentricities off the field.

In 2005, he famously made a checklist of “Who covered 85 in ’05.” In August of 2008, he legally changed his last name from Johnson to Ochocinco, and has since started the Chad Ochocinco News Network. He’s appeared on “Dancing with the Stars” and was featured in his own reality show, “Ochocinco: the Ultimate Catch.”

Earlier this year, he tried out for an MLS team in Kansas City.

Murray praised the receiver’s athleticism Friday night, but was honest with him when he said, “Those horns are going to be intimidating.”

When asked if he intended to follow through with his latest challenge, Ochocinco told several news organizations he has no choice.

“There’s no turning back,” he said. “I’m ready to rock. I mean, it is what it is.”
