COLORADO SPRINGS, CO – Surging 21-year old Derek Kolbaba (Walla Walla, Washington) is making quite the statement in the second half of the PBR’s (Professional Bull Riders) 2018 Built Ford Tough Series (BFTS) season with his second consecutive walk-off victory on Sunday afternoon during the Rumble in the Rockies at Broadmoor World Arena. The back-to-back wins catapulted Kolbaba from fifth to third place in the PBR World Standings. He has now ridden six bulls in a row.

Kolbaba earned a career-high 93 points in the Built Ford Tough Championship Round aboard reigning World Champion Bull, SweetPro’s Bruiser (D&H Cattle Co./Buck Cattle Co.) to complete a perfect 3-for-3 sweep to win the final round of the weekend.

Kolbaba began the day with 85.75 points aboard Too Smooth (Jack&Dot Verbois/D&H Cattle Co.) before choosing SweetPro’s Bruiser as his final bull. The chocolate brown bovine from D&H Cattle Co is currently tied with Pearl Harbor (Dakota Rodeo/Chad Berger/Clay Struve/H&C Bucking Bulls) as the top bull in the PBR and owns an 82.28 buckoff percentage.

Kolbaba picked up 602.5 points and $38,990 and now trails world leader Eduardo Aparecido (Gouvelandia, Brazil) by 452.5 points with only three regular-season events left until the PBR World Finals on Nov. 1-5 in Las Vegas.

In just his second trip ever to the Centennial State, Dener Barbosa (Paulo De Faria, Brazil) finished in second place in Colorado after his own 3-for-3 weekend. Barbosa began Championship Sunday with an 82.75-point ride on Snoop Dog (A Livestock) before scoring 89 points on Hey Jack (Jane Clark/Gene Owen) in the championship round.

No. 1 Aparecido finished in third place with 280 points on the weekend. He earned a paycheck of $12,800. His ride score of 88.5 points aboard Burn It Down (L&E Bull Co.) in the championship round was good enough for third in the round.

World No. 7 Stormy Wing (Dalhart, Texas) went 2-for-3, including an 88.75-point trip on Udder Lover (D&H Cattle Co.//Bob&Jeri Adams) to win Round 2 and finish in fourth place. He picked up 205 world points along with $8,980.

Australian Sonny Schafferius (Dysart) made the most of his opportunities this weekend, tallying a career-best event going 2-for-3 over the weekend to finish in 5th place. Schafferius opened his Championship Sunday with an 85-point ride on Reaper (Ty Rinaldo TZ Bucking Bulls) before bucking off Cooper Tires Brown Sugar (Dakota Rodeo/Julie Rosen/Clay Struve/Chad Berger) in the championship round. Schafferius netted 105 world points and $5,385.

SweetPro’s Bruiser was named the YETI “Built for the Wild” Bull of the Event after recording a 45.75-point bull score for Kolbaba’s ride in Sunday’s championship round.

The Top 35 bull riders in the world will next head to Nampa, Idaho where the Ford Idaho Center will host the DeWalt Guaranteed Tough Invitational presented by Ariat on Oct. 7-8.

The DeWalt Guaranteed Tough Invitational will begin at 6:45 p.m. ET Oct. 7 while Championship Sunday from Idaho will start at 3:45 p.m. ET on Oct. 8. A special round of competition called the 15/15 Bucking Battle will take place after Round 1 action on Saturday. CBS will air the 15/15 Bucking Battle at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 8. CBS Sports Network will also broadcast the Championship Sunday action beginning at 6 p.m. ET.
