KANSAS CITY, Mo. – March had quickly been developing into Cody Nance’s best month of the season, and that appeared to hold true during Round 1 of the Caterpillar Classic.
However, Nance’s 87.25-point ride aboard Pan Am Saturday night at the Sprint Center came with a consequence.
According to Dr. Tandy Freeman, Nance apparently dislocated his left hip when he landed on his knee dismounting Pan Am.
Nance immediately grabbed at his hip when he hit the ground, and he had to be assisted to the PBR sports medicine room.
The No. 19-ranked bull rider in the world was then transported to a local hospital for further evaluation.
Nance posted on his Instagram that he has since been released.
Nance is officially out for Round 2.
The ride was his sixth in his last 10 attempts, and propelled him to a fourth-place finish in Round 1.
Nance injured his hip shortly after Stormy Wing was sent to a local hospital to be evaluated for injuries sustained in Round 1.
According to Freeman, Wing was knocked out when he was bucked off by Sun Country in 4.51 seconds.
The No. 32 bull rider in the world was later attentive in the PBR sports medicine room, but he was transported to the hospital for further testing.
Wing was ruled out of competition on Sunday morning as he remained at a local hospital for further evaluation.
According to Freeman, Wing was in stable condition Sunday morning after being diagnose with an intracranial hemorrhage (small area of bleeding in the brain) and a hyoid fracture. Freeman said Wing is expected to be released from the hospital on Sunday afternoon.
Two-time World Champion J.B. Mauney will be riding in Round 2 after breaking his lower left rib attempting to ride Wild Goose in Round 1.
Wild Goose bucked Mauney off in 1.84 seconds and clipped by the bull.
Mauney was awarded a re-ride, but he turned down the option to be evaluated by sports medicine.
