PEORIA, Ill. – At the first PBR (Professional Bull Riders) Pendleton Whisky Velocity Tour event in Peoria, Illinois since 2017, Alex Cardozo (Indaiatuba, Brazil) used a championship round winning ride to propel himself to victory at Saturday evening’s Peoria Classic inside the Peoria Civic Center.

After just seven riders covered their opening round draw, the 29-year-old advanced to the final round courtesy of time, bested by Comanche (Mike Miller Bucking Bulls) in a heart-breaking 7.27 seconds.

Capitalizing on his second chance, Cardozo rose to the occasion, riding Peep Show (Cornwell Bucking Bulls) for an event-best 86 points to capture the event win.

For his efforts, the Brazilian earned a check for $7,900 along with 170 world points.

Cardozo additionally earned an invite to compete on the elite PBR Unleash The Beast on Sept. 21-22 at the Fairfax Invitational inside EagleBank Arena in Fairfax, Virginia.

In the Pendleton Whisky Velocity Tour standings, Cardozo is now No. 24.

As he looks to qualify for his second career PBR World Finals, Cardozo gained significant ground in the world standings. Ranked No. 138 prior to the start of the event, he is now No. 72, 407.5 points outside of the Top 35.

Round 1 winner Leonardo Lima (Vale do Paraiso, Brazili) finished second to earn $4,700 and 140 world points.

His qualified ride was earned aboard Yippy High Yo (5G Farms/Patterson Cattle) for 85.5 points.

Dakota Louis (Browning, Montana) and Carlos Garcia (Abingdon, Virginia) tied for third after each rider covered their first round draw for a matching 85 points. They covered The Roman (5G Farms) and Twinkle Toes (Zach Kruger Bucking Bulls), respectively.

Each rider left the Peoria Civic Center with a check for $2,500 and 55 world points.

Rounding out the Top 5 was Allen Burkholder (Millersburg, Ohio). He rode The Holdout (5G Farms) for 84 points in Round 1 to earn $1,140 and 15 world points.

Walker Texas Ranger (Big Rafter Rodeo LLC) and The Edge (Mike Miller Bucking Bulls) tied for the high-marked bull of the event. The bovine athletes recorded matching 43.5-point scores in Round 1 for dispatching Skeeter Kingsolver (Mclouth, Kansas) in 4.53 seconds, and Flavio de Souza Viana (General Salgado, Brazil) in 2.54 seconds, respectively.
