FORT WORTH, Texas — After three rounds of competition over the first two days of the PBR World Finals, three men have prevailed in the wild card rounds of the Ultimate Bullfighters Fort Worth Freestyle.
Jacorey Golden (Houston, Missouri), Rico Mathis (Hillard, Florida) and Dylan Idleman (Madill, Oklahoma) have run the gauntlet, all three facing three bulls in the tent outside Will Rogers Coliseum over two days.
With 15 bullfighters competing in the wild card rounds, Day 1 on Friday featured five flights of three, with the top two advancing from each round. On Saturday, those top ten faced off against each other in two-man fights, with the top man moving on to the Championship Round. In said Championship Round, the top three moved on for their shot at the $50,000 top prize on the second weekend of competition starting on May 20.
In the first round on Saturday, Golden put up the highest-marked fight of the day at 89 points against Wayne Ratley, who would not finish his fight. Idleman’s 85 was a point and a half better than the eliminated Austin Ashley, while Mathis may have only been 72.5, but it was enough to edge the 64 of Seth Wilson.
As the Championship Round began, Golden, Mathis and Idleman were joined by Cauy Kraut and Colby Lindsey.
Golden once again owned the Championship Round, taking the top spot with a big 88 points. Idleman was second at 86.5 points, with Mathis in the third and final qualifying spot at 86 points. Kraut missed the cut by a single point, and Lindsey was two back at 83.
Having already paid out $20,000, the first weekend complete, all eyes now look to the Fort Worth Freestyle Semifinal Rounds, where the 15 seeded athletes have already qualified via the UBF and Bulls Gone Wild events at the Cowtown Coliseum that started on March 10.
On Day 1 of the second weekend, May 20, all 18 will fight one bull, with the top 12 advancing to Saturday night. After a first round of head-to-head matches, the top six will fight one more bull for the remaining share of the $140,000 total purse.
On the final Saturday night, $100,000 will be paid out to the top six bullfighters on the richest night in freestyle bullfighting history, as follows:

2nd $25,000
3rd $10,000
