FORT WORTH, Texas – At the 96th iteration of the PBR (Professional Bull Riders) Stockyards Showcase inside the iconic Cowtown Coliseum in Fort Worth, Texas, Mauricio Gulla Moreira (Gaviao Peixoto, Brazil) went 2-for-2 to win the event title.
Paired with Honky Tonk (Mike Johnson) in the opening round, Moreira converted for 83 points.
Heading into the final round sitting at second in the event standings, the veteran Brazilian roared out of the chutes atop Taylor’s Cowtown Throwdown (Farris Cattle/Big Schott Rodeo/Triple T Livestock) for a round-winning 85.5 points.
The victory earned Moreira 57.5 Velocity Global points.
In second place was Alfredo Rubalcaba (Jalisco, Mexico).
Rubalcaba declined a re-ride option and kept his 65-point score aboard Johnson 52J (Mike Johnson) to punch his ticket to the championship round.
The Mexican cowboy then took advantage of his second opportunity, converting for 85.5 points on TFB 52J (Farris Cattle/Big Schott Rodeo) to tied Moreira for the round win.
The silver finish netted Rubalcaba 36.5 Velocity Global points.
The final spot on the podium belonged to Murilo Henrique de Oliveira (Pereira Barreto, Brazil).
After winning the opening round by riding CMSR 140 (Stockyards Pro Rodeo) for an event-high 86 points, Oliveira was bucked off by Throwing Hands (Farris Cattle/Big Schott Rodeo) in 6.28 seconds to end his bid for the event title.
Oliveira left Cowtown Coliseum with 26 Velocity Global points.
Jean Fernandes Pereira (Crixas, Brazil) came in fourth.
The Brazilian hung onto TFB K51 (Farris Cattle/Big Schott Rodeo) for 79.5 points in Round 1 but was bucked off by TFB 51 (Farris Cattle/Big Schott Rodeo) in 1.67 seconds during Round 2.
The 1-for-2 performance garnered Pereira 18 Velocity Global points.
The final qualified ride of the evening belonged to Ednelio Almeida (Cacoal, Brazil).
Tasked with Tweaker (Richardson Land & Cattle Co), Almeida catapulted out of the chutes for 69 points.
Unable to go in the championship round, Almeida returned home with 8 Velocity Global points.
Velocity Global points contribute to the Velocity Global Standings and determine which new riders are added to the elite Unleash The Beast throughout the season. The Top 3 Velocity Global riders who have not already qualified are also invited to the PBR World Finals in May.
In the bull pen, TFB Y1 (Farris Cattle/Big Schott Rodeo) was marked 43.5 points for his second-round buckoff of Wyatt Moulton (Fruitland, Idaho) in 2.69 seconds to win the Bull of the Event title.
The PBR Stockyards Showcase returns on Thursday, March 27. Action inside Cowtown Coliseum will get underway at 7:30 p.m. CT.
