DAYTON, Ohio – After the dirt settled at the Pendleton Whisky Velocity Tour’s (PWVT) Cooper Tires PBR (Professional Bull Riders) Dayton, Michael Lane (Tazewell, Virginia) emerged victorious, going a perfect 3-for-3.

In Round 1 Friday night, Lane rode Big Baller (Herndon Bucking Bulls) for 84.5 points.

Now on a roll, the cool-headed Virginian stormed out of the chutes for 86 points aboard Double R Hat House Pepper Shaker (J.C. Knapp Rodeo Co) in Round 2.

Lane then locked in one more time in the championship round, moving in perfect time with Happy Gambler (Kevin Foreman Bucking Bulls) for 84.5 points to split the round win and seize the event lead.

The victory earned Lane 128.5 Velocity Global points.

In second place was Lucas Fideles Souza (Barnstable, Massachusetts).

Souza sat tall aboard Red Wing (3B Cattle Co) for 88 points in Round 1 before seizing the event lead heading into the championship round by riding Aggie Pete (Julian Cattle) for 87 points in Round 2.

In his final out of the weekend, the Commonwealth cowboy was finally bested by Little Eddy (KR Bucking Stock/LTG Bucking Bulls) in 2.72 seconds.

The silver finish secured Souza 85 Velocity Global points.

Afonso Quintino (Sao Luis dos Montes Belos, Brazil) finished third.

Paired with Roc Bottom (K-C Bucking Bulls) in Round 1, the Brazilian danced in perfect time with the powerful bovine competitor for an event-high 88.5 points to win the opening round.

Despite bucking off Dang, Dang (Obernagel/Sho-Me Rodeo) in 4.46 seconds in Round 2, Quintino battled back to ride Sizmagraf (Silver Creek/Sellers/UTC/H5 Bucking Bulls) for a ground-shaking 84.5 points in the championship round.

The final spot on the podium netted Quintino 87 Velocity Global points.

In fourth place was Joao Lucas Campos (Porto Feliz, Brazil).

Campos got off to a strong start inside the Nutter Center, riding Flashbang (LH Cattle Co/Bucking W Farms) for 85 points in Round 1 and Yukon Jack (LH Cattle Co/2T Cattle Co/Broke Spur Ranch) for 87.5 points in Round 2.

However, the Brazilian couldn’t hang on to Roc Bottom past 4.22 seconds in the championship round, ending his bid for the event title.

The 2-for-3 performance garnered Campos 53 Velocity Global points.

Rounding out the Top 5 was Marcus Mast (Middlebury, Indiana).

The grizzled veteran made the 8 for 84.5 points atop Cutter (Silver Creek/Sellers/UTC/H5 Bucking Bulls) in the opening round Friday evening.

In Round 2, Mast thundered out of the gate on 38 Special (Silver Creek/Sellers/UTC/H5 Bucking Bulls) for 86.5 points to punch his ticket to the championship round.

In his final out of the weekend, Mast gave the nod aboard There’s Your Sign (KR Bucking Stock/LTG Bucking Bulls) but was bested after 2.16 seconds.

Mast returned home with 44 Velocity Global points.

Velocity Global points contribute to the Velocity Global Standings and determine which new riders are added to the elite Unleash The Beast throughout the season. The Top 3 Velocity Global riders who have not already qualified are also invited to the PBR World Finals in May.

In the bull pen, There’s Your Sign, Roc Bottom, and High Roller (K-C Bucking Bulls) were all marked 44 points to split the Bull of the Event title.

While the Pendleton Whisky Velocity Tour bucked in Dayton and Wheeling, West Virginia, the elite Unleash The Beast competes in Palm Desert, California.
