Carolina Cowboys’ home stand preview: Greensboro showdown on dirt

With Las Vegas Championship on the horizon, Greensboro hosts three matchups that could shape the Cowboys’ playoff push.

The race toward Las Vegas is heating up as the PBR Camping World Team Series rolls into Greensboro, North Carolina, for Carolina Cowboy Days presented by Mountain Claws, stop No. 8 of the 12- event 2025 regular season. Every ride, every jump and every second inside First Horizon Coliseum will matter more than ever.

There are only five regular season stops left in the PBR Camping World Team Series, including this weekend’s Cowboy Days in Greensboro. That means just 15 games to set the seeding for the playoffs.

This isn’t just another weekend of bull riding — it’s a homecoming. The Carolina Cowboys return to their own dirt, fueled by momentum from Anaheim and determined to deliver for their fans. The stage is set for three straight nights of electrifying action that could shape the playoff picture.

Friday, September 12, 2025 – Carolina Cowboys vs. Missouri Thunder
League standings: Missouri Thunder (5th, 9-11) vs. Carolina Cowboys (6th, 8-12)

Greensboro opens with a clash between two teams on the rise. The Missouri Thunder arrive with confidence after stringing together wins in Anaheim, but the Cowboys are just as hot, winning two of three matchups last weekend. On paper, Carolina holds the edge thanks to its depth and star power.

Two-time world champion Jess Lockwood looked sharp in Anaheim, Clay Guiton is riding strong again and the Cowboys have enough depth to cover for Cooper Davis, whose struggles continue. Missouri, however, thrives on gritty performances and momentum, making this matchup a coin flip. The question is simple: Can the Thunder spoil Carolina’s homecoming, or will the Cowboys' grip tighten on their dirt?

Saturday, September 13, 2025 – Carolina Cowboys vs. Nashville Stampede
League standings: Carolina Cowboys (6th, 8-12) vs. Nashville Stampede (9th, 6-14)

Saturday brings a favorable matchup on paper as the Cowboys meet Justin McBride’s Nashville Stampede. While Nashville has flashed moments of potential, they have struggled to build consistency all season.

By contrast, Carolina’s lineup is loaded with firepower, and their momentum, plus the energy of the Greensboro crowd should give them the edge. If the Cowboys execute cleanly, Saturday night could be theirs to win.

Sunday Showdown, September 14, 2025 – Carolina Cowboys vs. Austin Gamblers
League standings: Austin Gamblers (2nd, 15-5) vs. Carolina Cowboys (6th, 8-12)

Sunday delivers the marquee showdown: Carolina hosting the reigning PBR Camping World Team Series champions, the Austin Gamblers.

Austin is reeling after being swept 5-0 by the Florida Freedom in Anaheim, a result that knocked them from the No. 1 spot in the league. (They're still tied with Florida and Arizona in wins with 15). With stars like José Vitor Leme hungry for redemption, the Gamblers will look to rebound in Greensboro.

For Carolina, this is their toughest test of the weekend. A victory here would be a signature moment of their season and a powerful statement to the rest of the league. Winning two of three games at home feels realistic, but a clean sweep would electrify the fan base and launch the Cowboys back into serious playoff contention.

Updated PBR Camping World Team Series Standings – Heading into Greensboro

Florida Freedom – 15-5
Austin Gamblers – 15-5
Arizona Ridge Riders – 15-5

Missouri Thunder – 9-11

New York Mavericks – 3-17

Closing Thoughts

After last weekend’s performance in Anaheim, there are still plenty of questions to be answered — not only for the Carolina Cowboys, but for several other teams across the league. Can Carolina build on its momentum and deliver a perfect 3-for-3 record on home dirt? Can the Cowboys climb higher in the standings and re-establish themselves as contenders? Will Cooper Davis find his breakout slump-busting ride and ignite the spark his team needs?

The Cowboys showed flashes of the consistency that carried them through much of the 2024 PBR Camping World Team Series season, but whether they can recapture that rhythm in time remains to be seen. One thing is certain: there’s still plenty of regular season left to fight for positioning before we head to Las Vegas. Once there, it’s a bracket-style, March Madness-inspired format — where every ride counts and only the strongest survive.

At the end of the day, what matters most is how you finish. The 7-20-1 Nashville Stampede proved that in winning the league's inaugural championship in 2022. Every team, including the hometown Carolina Cowboys are striving to build momentum and give themselves the best chance possible to win it all inside T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Oct. 24-26.

Beyond the Dirt

The Midwest Outdoors Adaptability Foundation is carrying forward the same spirit of resilience seen in bull riding — but in a way that changes lives off the dirt. The foundation provides access to the Action Trackchair, a groundbreaking all-terrain wheelchair designed to give people with mobility challenges the freedom to experience the outdoors without limits.

No insurance will cover these life-changing chairs, and their hefty $25,000 price tag puts them out of reach for the very people who need them most. That’s why the foundation exists: to bridge the gap and make the impossible possible. Because you can’t put a price on freedom, independence and living life to the fullest.

Just as PBR athletes push themselves to conquer challenges eight seconds at a time, the Midwest Outdoors Adaptability Foundation helps others overcome obstacles of their own — ensuring no one is left behind when it comes to experiencing the outdoors. Learn more at www.moafoundation.org.
