SALT LAKE CITY – Alex Cerqueira (Iguatemi, Brazil) was victorious on Friday night at Delta Center, winning Round 1 of the PBR (Professional Bull Riders) Salt Lake City presented by Busch Light, the eighth stop of the 2026 Unleash The Beast (UTB) schedule.
Cerqueira went the distance atop Stryker for 88.90 points late in the third section. The Brazilian cowboy claimed the top spot on the event leaderboard and maintained it for the duration of Friday night’s opening round.
Earning 28 UTB points for his first round win of the season, he’s now ranked No. 14 as he looks to build on his sizable start to the weekend.
No. 2 Clay Guiton (Cherryville, North Carolina) remained red-hot Friday, extending his ride streak to seven successful outs. Besting Uncle Doc for 87.60 points, Guiton ended Round 1 in third place as he attempts to secure a third-straight podium appearance in Saturday’s finale. Taking home 17 UTB points as he continued his momentous run, Guiton is now just 14.5 points behind No. 1 Dalton Kasel (Muleshoe, Texas), who is out this week due to injury.
Mauricio Gulla Moreira (Gaviao Peixoto, Brazil) enters Round 2 in fourth place after surviving the requisite 8 aboard Smokey for 87.35 points in the opening round, while No. 5 Julio Cesar Marques (Tatuí, Brazil) sits in fifth place after besting Bayou Boy (86.05 points) during the slate’s first conversion.
Friday night’s opening round featured the most recent installment of the Monster Energy Team Challenge, an extension of the PBR Teams league that brings head-to-head, team vs. team bull riding games to the sport’s elite individual tour.
Paulo Eduardo Rossetto (Colorado, Brazil) logged the lone conversion of Game 1’s Monster Energy Team Challenge showdown as he led his Missouri Thunder to an 87.75-0 victory over the squad’s in-state rival Kansas City Outlaws.
Scored 87.75 points for a re-ride dance with Walk Hard, Rossetto earned 18 UTB points for the runner-up finish, which helped him jump from No. 10 to No. 7 while helping the Thunder improve to 3-0 within METC competition. The Outlaws dropped to 1-1 in 2026 METC play.
The second game of 4-on-4 competition featured a 0-0 decision between the Arizona Ridge Riders and Oklahoma Wildcatters. Despite Cort McFadden (Novice, Texas) and Kase Hitt (Dickson, Oklahoma) drawing re-ride attempts, the scoreless final resulted in losses for both teams as Arizona fell to 0-2 and Oklahoma dropped to 0-3 on the season.
Action for the PBR Salt Lake City presented by Busch Light will continue with Round 2 immediately followed by the championship round on Saturday, Feb. 7, at 7:45 p.m. MT, with the evening’s coverage set to begin on Paramount+ at 8 p.m. MT.
