GOING BACK NORTH

The Unleash The Beast returns to familiar territory in Indianapolis at a pivotal moment in the season, with just four regular-season events remaining after this weekend before the tour heads to Fort Worth for the World Finals in May.

With 167 points available at any given UTB event, the margin for error has all but disappeared as the world’s best bull riders enter a full sprint toward the gold buckle.

This weekend also marks the first Saturday-Sunday event format of the 2026 season, adding a different rhythm to an already high-pressure environment inside Gainbridge Fieldhouse.

A CHANGE IN LEADERSHIP

The world title race took another dramatic turn following Tallahassee.

• No. 1 John Crimber leads No. 2 Sage Steele Kimzey by just 27 points.
• Five different riders have held the No. 1 ranking through 13 events this season.
Dalton Kasel, Crimber and Kimzey have each spent multiple weeks atop the standings.
• 324 points now separate No. 1 Crimber and No. 10 Julio Cesar Marques.

The parity across the field remains undeniable, with 10 different winners through 13 events and nine riders converting at 50% or better.

Kimzey and Alex Cerqueira lead the tour with 20 qualified rides each, while Kimzey maintains the highest riding percentage at 66.67% (20-for-30).

With the standings this tight, one qualified ride — or one mistake — could shift the entire championship picture.

NOTABLE RIDERS TO WATCH

John Crimber enters Indianapolis back atop the standings after capitalizing on the season’s only Major event in Tallahassee. The young phenom logged 120 points behind a third-place finish, highlighted by an 88.8-point Round 1 win and an 88.55-point effort in Round 2 to reclaim the No. 1 ranking.

Sage Steele Kimzey continues to apply pressure just behind him, leading the tour with three event wins this season. The seven-time PRCA World Champion has been dominant in recent weeks, riding seven of his last 10 bulls, including standout performances aboard Elmo (89.35 points) and Lights Out (91.55 points) during his Little Rock victory.

Leandro Zampollo remains one of the most consistent threats on tour, sitting No. 3 in the standings while knocking on the door of his first UTB win. With runner-up finishes in Pittsburgh, Bridgeport and Little Rock, Zampollo has proven he can contend — now seeking to break through in Indianapolis after rides aboard Game Over (88.35 points) and Nobody(89.50 points).

Jose Vitor Leme finds himself in unfamiliar territory at No. 35 in the standings, 563.5 points back of the lead. The reigning three-time World Champion has just six qualified rides this season and was shut out in Tallahassee, but remains dangerous as he looks to regain form and chase history with a potential fourth world title.

Koltin Hevalow returns to a venue where he found success one year ago, finishing runner-up in Indianapolis in 2025. Currently No. 16 in the standings with 15 qualified rides, Hevalow eyes a breakthrough performance to secure his second career UTB victory.

Jadon Hayes makes his Unleash The Beast debut after capturing his first Pendleton Whisky Velocity Tour win in Bakersfield, bringing momentum into his first appearance on the sport’s biggest stage.

Luciano de Castro enters the weekend nearing a career milestone, sitting just two qualified rides shy of 250 on the premier series — a mark he could reach in Indianapolis.

PLAYING ABOVE THE LINE

The UTB roster continues to evolve as Velocity Tour standouts earn opportunities on the premier series.

Hayes headlines this weekend’s invites following his Bakersfield victory, joined by Top 5 Velocity Global riders Trace Redd, Wyatt Rogers, Andy Guzman and Elijah Jennings. Hudson Bolton is also available as an alternate.

With continued cuts shaping the field and Velocity Global points determining future opportunities, every out in Indianapolis carries added significance for those fighting to stay on tour.

MONSTER ENERGY TEAM CHALLENGE — PLAYOFF PICTURE

The Monster Energy Team Challenge enters its final regular-season weekend with playoff spots still on the line.

The Missouri Thunder have already clinched the No. 1 seed with a perfect 4-0 record, while the Austin Gamblers have also secured a playoff berth.

The remaining spots come down to a tight race between the Florida Freedom, Kansas City Outlaws and Nashville Stampede:

• Kansas City vs. Arizona Ridge Riders
• Nashville vs. Carolina Cowboys

Key scenarios:

• If Kansas City wins and Nashville loses, Kansas City and Florida clinch.
• If Nashville wins and Kansas City loses, Nashville and Florida clinch.
• If both lose, Kansas City and Nashville go to a tiebreaker.
• If both win, seeding will be determined by cumulative score, with potential elimination scenarios for Florida.

The METC Championship Tournament will take place across Albuquerque (March 27), Billings (April 17) and Tacoma (April 24), where teams will battle in elimination-style 7-on-7 matchups to crown the inaugural champion.

REMATCH RECAP

Several familiar matchups return to the dirt in Round 1 in Indianapolis.

Alan de Souza faces Black Tie for the third time, having previously converted for 85.5 points in Austin and 85 points in Kansas City.

Andy Guzman draws Simple Man once again after posting an 87.35-point ride in their first meeting earlier this season in Sacramento.

Cort McFadden looks to replicate past success against Rockabilly after riding the bull for 82.75 points in Houston in January 2025.

With the championship race tightening, playoff implications looming and the World Finals on the horizon, Indianapolis sets the stage for a high-stakes weekend where every ride matters and momentum can shift in an instant.
