Key Storylines
With World Finals just around the corner, Tacoma arrives as one final proving ground for riders still jockeying for position — and in some cases, simply fighting to stay alive. The bubble remains one of the biggest storylines of the weekend, as riders on the outside looking in get one last shot to punch their ticket to Fort Worth.
One of the biggest names in the bull pen will be there too. Pegasus is set to buck in Tacoma even after strengthening his lead in the YETI World Champion Bull race with a season-high 46.7-point bull score in Billings. The bovine athlete has been a problem for riders all season long, and his presence adds another layer of intrigue to the final regular-season stop.
Meanwhile, Clay Guiton continues to hold his place inside the Top 10 despite missing nearly 90 days following the grand mal seizure he suffered in Salt Lake City. Guiton is set to undergo brain scans in Connecticut this week to determine whether he may be able to return during World Finals, making his status one of the most important storylines to watch in the week ahead.
Off the dirt, PBR Team series roster movement has also added a twist to the Monster Energy Team Challenge finale. Andrew Alvidrez was traded to the Texas Rattlers by the Missouri Thunder ahead of the championship matchup, meaning he will not ride for Missouri against the Austin Gamblers in Tacoma. The move leaves not only a sizable hole in the Thunder lineup, but also removes a veteran leader from the locker room at one of the biggest moments of the season.
And then there is Cassio Dias, who may have finally found his rhythm again in Billings. After weeks of searching for answers, the reigning World Champion looked much more like himself in Montana, delivering a pair of strong rides scored at 90.2 and 88.65 points. Now, the question becomes whether Dias can build on that momentum at exactly the right time as the sport turns its attention toward Fort Worth.
