Ricky Vaughn

Biography

Ricky Vaughn burst from the chute like a stick of dynamite, a small-framed powerhouse whose speed and intensity made him one of the most electric bulls of his era. Known as “the little bull with the biggest heart,” he became a fan favorite and a rider’s test, delivering outs that were as thrilling as they were unforgiving. And when someone matched him jump for jump, it often turned into something unforgettable.

Owned by H.D. Page, Ricky Vaughn’s journey to greatness was unlike any other. As a young calf, he survived a pituitary abscess — a condition veterinarians deemed 100% fatal — thanks to the relentless efforts of Oklahoma State University’s veterinary team. What followed was nothing short of a miracle. Once considered lost, he returned not only to health but to dominance, pairing explosive quickness with rare smoothness that made him both dangerous and dream-worthy for the world’s best riders.

Despite his smaller stature, Ricky Vaughn delivered outs that rivaled the sport’s biggest bulls, recording a 46.75-point trip in Duluth — the highest debut bull score in 20 years — and repeatedly proving nearly unrideable. Yet when riders conquered him, he gave them magic. From Kaique Pacheco’s 93-point ride in Indianapolis to John Crimber’s 92.5-point breakthrough in Tucson, Ricky Vaughn became a cornerstone of career-defining moments while climbing to the top of the YETI World Champion Bull race.

Page often spoke about how much bulls become family, and Ricky Vaughn embodied that truth. Once known as a difficult, even mean young bull, he transformed into something entirely different — a gentle, trusting presence behind the chutes, a reminder that even the fiercest competitors can carry a quiet tenderness. His name came to represent not just resilience inside the arena, but the heart of a survivor who refused to be defined by what should have been the end of his story.

Now remembered as one of the sport’s most inspiring athletes, Ricky Vaughn’s legacy lives on far beyond his outs and scores. Many who loved the little bull like to believe that somewhere beyond the arena lights, he’s running free — no longer fighting, no longer hurting — just charging up a wide green hill, ears forward, heart full, still proving that the biggest stories don’t always come in the biggest frames.
