A Groundbreaking Collegiate Team Rodeo Comes to Canvas Stadium

This one-night-only showdown will feature two teams of 30 rodeo athletes representing the 19 Learfield College Rodeo partner programs, bringing together the best collegiate rodeo talent in the country.

Legendary Leadership

The North team will be led by Joe Beaver and Sid Steiner, while the South team will be coached by Trevor Brazile and Dale Brisby.

Head-to-Head Format

One-on-one matchups across nine disciplines create a fast-paced, team-driven competition. Each discipline features three head-to-head matchups, with athletes going directly against an opponent from the opposing team.

Timed events run simultaneously using a synchronized light system, while roughstock events compete back-to-back within each matchup.

How Scoring Works

The event is not a best-of format. Instead, teams compete across 27 total matchups (three per discipline), with each matchup earning one point for the winner.

If a matchup does not produce a winner, the point rolls over — increasing the value of the next matchup to two points, then three, and so on until a winner is determined.

Full-Event Competition

All 27 matchups are contested, regardless of early results. Even if one team builds an early lead, the competition continues through every discipline, with the highest total point score at the end determining the champion.

The Disciplines

Barrel Racing

Horse and rider sprint a cloverleaf pattern around three barrels, where tight turns and full-speed acceleration decide the winner in a race measured by fractions of a second.

Breakaway Roping

A lightning-fast event where the rider ropes a calf and the rope snaps free from the saddle horn—stopping the clock instantly and rewarding precision and speed.

Team Roping

The only true team event in rodeo, where one rider ropes the steer’s horns and the other snags the hind legs—timing and teamwork make or break the run.

Tie-Down Roping

A test of versatility as the cowboy ropes a calf, dismounts on the fly and quickly ties three legs together—all while the clock keeps ticking.

Steer Wrestling

Also known as bulldogging, this event features riders leaping from horseback onto a running steer and using strength and technique to bring it to the ground.

Goat Tying

Speed and coordination take center stage as the rider dismounts, sprints to a goat and ties three legs together in one fluid motion.

Bareback Riding

A wild ride where competitors grip a rigging with one hand and use powerful spurring motions to stay in sync with a bucking horse for eight seconds.

Saddle Bronc Riding

Often called rodeo’s classic event, this ride is all about rhythm, balance and control as riders match the horse’s movement with smooth, precise technique.

Bull Riding

Riders must stay aboard a spinning, kicking bull for eight seconds as power and chaos collide in one of the most intense matchups in sports.
