Luciano De Castro captures first UTB win since 2018 at Wrangler Long Live Cowboys PBR Sacramento Presented by Cooper Tires

Sandro Batista ends Cool Whip’s record 48 consecutive buck-offs streak with 89.75-point championship round ride.

By Mandi McCary

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – With a rowdy Sunday afternoon crowd at full volume, Luciano De Castro (Guzolandia, Brazil) was flawless, delivering a perfect 4-for-4 performance to win the PBR (Professional Bull Riders) Unleash The Beast event inside Golden 1 Center in Sacramento, California, rocketing him from No. 6 to No. 3 in the heated race for the 2025 PBR World Championship.

The momentous win puts Castro a mere 94 points behind world leader Brady Fielder (Clermont, Queensland, Australia) and 22.5 points behind John Crimber (Decatur, Texas). Fielder had an uncharacteristic weekend going 0-for-3 while Crimber is sidelined due to injury.

Collecting his first elite series win since 2018, the veteran rider who competes for the Arizona Ridge Riders in the separate PBR Teams league recorded the highest ride score of the weekend with his impressive 90.75-point championship round-winning ride aboard Gene’s Best

“Today is a very special day in my life, my last win was seven years ago,” remarked Castro from the dirt immediately following the event. “Today I am very happy, I want to thank God, my family and fans and for everyone that came here. I am just working hard to reach my goal.”

After attempting three bulls in a matter of minutes on Saturday night to finally record an 86.25-point score aboard Buckshot, he walked into Sunday at No. 2 on the event leaderboard, behind Paulo Eduardo Rossetto (Colorado, Brazil).

Paired with Thunder Butte for Sunday’s opening round, Castro remained in full control for 83.5 points.

Taking the lead in the short round by riding Gene’s Best to vault above Rossetto on the leaderboard, Castro faced being knocked into second in the final moments if Austin Richardson (Dallas, Texas) could secure a qualified ride of 87.25 points. With Ricky Vaughn tossing the Nashville Stampede rider to the ground at 3.05 seconds, Castro clinched the win.

In addition to a check for $49,083.33, Castro earned 169 Unleash The Beast points.

The only other man to go 4-for-4 over the weekend in Sacramento was 27-year-old Rossetto, the only athlete on the top tour who can ride with either hand.

After an impressive performance on Friday night, claiming the Monster Energy Team Challenge victory for the Missouri Thunder courtesy of his Round 1-winning ride, Rossetto furthered his hold at the top of the event leaderboard as night two rolled to a close.

As one of only five men to start the weekend a perfect 2-for-2, Rossetto conquered Alakazoo in Round 2 for 86.5 points and jumped from No. 29 to No. 26 in the overall standings.

Starting Sunday aboard It’s Ok, the Missouri Thunder man netted a less-than-ideal 73 points before heading into his final out of the weekend.

Selecting Electric Kitty as his final opponent in hopes of his first UTB win, Rossetto battled it out till the very end earning an 89.5-point score.

With the second-place finish, Rossetto earned 121 UTB points and moved to No. 16 in the world.

Despite his best efforts down to the wire on Sunday afternoon to clinch a win inside Golden 1 Center, Richardson finished the weekend in third place overall after going 3-for-4.

Sharing the Round 3 win with Sandro Batista (Pedra Preta, Brazil) earlier in the day complemented his Saturday night third-place finish and Friday Top 10 finish to earn 96.5 UTB points and bounce him from No. 23 in the UTB standings to No. 11.

The “Ice Man,” 2018 PBR World Champion Kaique Pacheco (Itatiba, Brazil) ended the weekend as the No. 14 man in the world standings after going 3-for-4 to finish fourth.

Pacheco, who rides for the Austin Gamblers in the PBR Teams league, gritted out his matchups on both Friday and Saturday to land at No. 5 on the event leaderboard as Sunday began.

Matched with Blown Away in Round 3, Pacheco recorded an 87.75-point score to finish fourth in the round.

His selection of Night Hawk in the championship round didn’t go his way, as the muscular bovine dispatched him after 6.93 seconds.

Pacheco earned 65.5 UTB points on the weekend.

In perhaps one of the most jaw-dropping moments of the weekend, 25-year-old Batista selected Cool Whip as his opponent for the championship round, and then broke the bull’s historic buck-off streak.

After Batista narrowly earned his path into the final round courtesy of an 88.75-point ride aboard In My Blood in Round 3, all eyes were on the Kansas City Outlaw as he prepared to face the formidable bovine who had bucked off a PBR record 48 riders since Joao Ricardo Viera made the 8 on him in April, 2022.

Launching through the air in perfect form, Batista clung to the massive white animal to the disbelief of fans and his fellow athletes and barely made the whistle for an 89.75-point ride. Batista is the second man in Cool Whip’s career to ever ride the popular bull, who boasted an overall record in the industry of 82 buckoffs and one prior ride.

Batista went 2-for-4 on the weekend, earning 64 UTB points for a fifth-place finish which pushed him from No. 18 to No. 12.

In the bull pen, Buck Nasty was unrivaled, anointed the YETI “Built for the Wild” Bull of the Event. Bucking in Round 1, the talented animal athlete was awarded a stellar 46.75-point bull score for his 2.23-second buckoff of Ethan Winckler (Winnie, Texas), a gregarious 18-year-old who later competed in his first UTB Championship round Sunday afternoon.
