New York Mavericks finish Maverick Days homestand 2-1 with close win over Texas Rattlers

By James Youness

BELMONT PARK, N.Y. – The hometown New York Mavericks (13-19) rode three bulls to upset the No. 5 Texas Rattlers (16-16) during the final day of competition at PBR Teams: Go Bowling Maverick Days in Belmont Park, New York, Sunday to conclude their homestand showcase with a 2-1 record.

Postseason implications continued to shuffle during the third day of 5-vs.-5 showdowns at UBS Arena, with three games per team remaining in the regular season before the 2026 PBR Teams Championship in Las Vegas (Nov. 6-8 at T-Mobile Arena).

The Austin Gamblers (19-13) defended their No. 2 rank while establishing a one-game advantage over the No. 4 Nashville Stampede (18-14) in the PBR Teams standings after defeating the Stampede in Sunday’s opening game, while the Carolina Cowboys (19-13) beat the Arizona Ridge Riders (14-18) to surpass Nashville for the No. 3 rank. The league’s top three teams will receive a first-round playoff bye.

The Oklahoma Wildcatters (11-21) defeated the Kansas City Outlaws (14-18) in walk-off fashion to avoid a guaranteed spot in this season’s approaching Ride-In Game, which will take place in Las Vegas between the bottom 3-ranked teams following the regular season. The Florida Freedom (13-19) upset the No. 1 Missouri Thunder (23-9) as Missouri exited the eleventh regular season showcase with a 2-1 record alongside the franchise’s first-ever regular season championship honors.

The best bull riders in the world combined for 79 qualified rides this weekend to set a PBR Teams league record for the most conversions at a three-day event.

Two of three first-round byes at the 2026 PBR Teams Championship remain up for grabs, with the No. 2 Austin Gamblers and No. 3 Carolina Cowboys one game ahead of the No. 4 Nashville Stampede. Austin, Carolina, Nashville and Texas are the four remaining teams eligible to earn a first-round bye. Missouri claimed the first of three Top 3 seeds Saturday night in New York.

Returning to New York’s event-ending win, Josh Frost (Randlett, Utah) made the most of his opening out against Smooth Movin Train, marked 85.20 points atop the bovine to get the Rattlers on the board. But an 88.80-point conversion from Hudson Bolton (Milan, Tennessee) put the home team ahead in the bottom of the first. Marco Rizzo(Quitman, Georgia) forced another wave of raucous applause as he matched Jailbird step-for-step to score 86.05 points for the Mavericks. But moments later a resilient Brady Fielder (Clermont, Australia) provided a clutch 89.80 points aboard Heavy Load to put the Rattlers back in the lead by a mere .15 points. That provided an opportunity for Leonardo Castro (Cassilandia, Brazil) to play hometown hero, as the Brazilian rider went the distance atop Flyin’ Solo for a game-winning 88.90 points in the bottom of the fourth. Lucas Divino (Nova Crixas, Brazil) chipped in an 88.30-point conversion dancing with Tulsa Time in the top of the fifth, but Texas came up .45 points short. Both the Mavericks and Rattlers posted 2-1 records at Maverick Days.

The Austin Gamblers rode four bulls for the second-straight day to defeat the Nashville Stampede, 356.10-178.80. Two-time PBR Teams MVP Jose Vitor Leme (Ribas do Rio Pardo, Brazil) completed his 3-for-3 showing by going the distance aboard Walk Off (88.95) to extend his lead atop the PBR Teams MVP race to 179.45 points over Paulo Eduardo Rossetto (Colorado, Brazil) during Austin’s opening out. Rossetto bucked off in Game 2 and sits two scores back with three games remaining.

Sage Steele Kimzey (Strong City, Oklahoma) followed up Leme’s conversion with a second qualified ride, scored en epic, personal season-high 91.90 points for his 8-second effort on Freedom Fighter in the bottom of the second, his fourth 90-point ride of the season. Rogério Venâncio (Paranaita, Brazil) got the Stampede on the board in the top of the third, besting Bad Company for 88.95 points to bring Nashville within one score, before Gustavo Luiz da Silva(Inocência, Brazil) made it two-straight for the Stampede, marked 89.85 points on Cramer to pull Nashville within 2.05 points. A second-straight conversion from Andrew Alvidrez (Seminole, Texas) padded Austin’s lead by 87.75 points for his dance with XIT Knock Out in the bottom of the fourth before Jesse Petri (Dublin, Texas) subbed in and knocked his re-ride out against The HONDO out the park, scored 87.50 points to solidify the Gamblers’ 2-1 weekend at Maverick Days. Nashville concluded the event 1-2.

The Florida Freedom upset the No. 1 Missouri Thunder during Game 3 as Florida’s newest rider again came through for the team in the leadoff spot. Luciano De Castro (Guzolandia, Brazil) improved to 3-for-3 since being acquired by the Freedom earlier this week and advanced to 4-for-4 all-time against Hoka Hey after besting the bovine for 83.20 points. Ramon Fiorini (Serra Negra, Brazil) gave Missouri the lead via an 88.55-point strike on Live Bait but was the Thunder’s only rider to go the distance. Manoelito de Souza Junior (Itamira, Brazil) completed a gritty effort atop Iceberg Slim in the top of the fourth for Florida, hanging off the side of the bull to complete the conversion. Florida declined the re-ride as the 31-year-old brought an end to his PBR Teams record 38-out buckoff streak, scored 46.75 points. Head Coach Paulo Crimber’s decision to keep the score proved to be the right one as the Freedom defeated the Thunder, 129.95-88.55.

During Sunday’s third game, the Oklahoma Wildcatters upset the Kansas City Outlaws in a dramatic 354.25-353.40 final as Natanael Serra Aires (Fernandópolis, Brazil) completed the walk-off victory for Oklahoma. Sandro Batista (Pedra Preta, Brazil) remained red-hot for the Outlaws by recording his seventh-consecutive ride, topping Bex Red Eye for a season-high 90.45 points as his team’s leadoff rider before Eduardo Matos (Emilianópolis, Brazil) went the distance atop Birthday Cake (87.60) to round out the first. Eric Henrique Domingos (Pérola, Brazil) bested Swingin Solo for 85.75 points in the top of the second, but Winy dos Santos (Loanda, Brazil) answered with an 89.65-point effort on Show Bizto continue the high-scoring affair. Renan Almeida Alves (Orlândia, Brazil) put Oklahoma in front, scored 88.45 points on Hoobastank in bottom of the third as the Wildcatters remained perfect. However, Hayden Welsh (Gillette, Wyoming) and Maikon Calixton Rocha (Orindiúva, Brazil) teamed up for respective 90.65 (Irish Car Bomb) and 86.55-point (Strike Zone) rides during the Outlaws’ final two outs to put Kansas City ahead one ride score with one out remaining. In the bottom of the fifth, Aires went the distance aboard Kill Switch for 88.55 points to clinch the walk-off win for Oklahoma. The Wildcatters and Outlaws each finished the weekend 1-2.

The Carolina Cowboys defeated the Arizona Ridge Riders 176.55-0 to round out Maverick Days with a 2-1 record and No. 3 rank as the team continues to hunt down a Top 3 seed and associated first-round bye at next month’s 2026 PBR Teams Championship. Thiago Salgado (Naviraí, Brazil) got the Cowboys off to a spirited start with 87.45 points on Getcha Some during the game’s first out. Clay Guiton (Cherryville, North Carolina) added 89.10 points on Joker in the top of the third for Carolina as the game’s only other cowboy to survive the requisite 8. After sweeping at home last weekend, Arizona fell to 0-3 at UBS Arena.

Nasubi was the high-marked bull of the event with 46.50 points, dispatching Marcelo De Souza Dias Junior in 2.98 seconds during Saturday’s final game.
