Key Storylines

After 12 regular-season events, the 2026 PBR Teams Championship arrives in Las Vegas with the bracket set, the stakes higher than ever and every team hoping to end the weekend with a buckle.

But before a champion can be crowned, there's plenty of unfinished business to settle.

The 2026 regular season delivered no shortage of historic performances, record-setting streaks and unforgettable moments.

PBR surpassed $25 million in prize money paid out this year, excluding event-added money, while riders across the league combined for 78 rides of 90 points or higher and a 39.4% riding percentage.

Two-time PBR World Champion and the youngest World Champion in PBR history, Jess Lockwood, proved he still has plenty left in the tank, delivering the highest-marked ride of the PBR Teams season aboard Lights Out for a massive 93.90 points.

Missouri Thunder standout Paulo Eduardo Rossetto set a new league record with 15 consecutive qualified rides, while Nashville's Riquelmi Silva made history with five walk-off victories, the most by any rider in a single PBR Teams season.

The league also witnessed two perfect games, both in New York, with the Texas Rattlers accomplishing the feat against Nashville and Missouri doing the same against Austin.

And then there's Jose Vitor Leme.

The Austin Gamblers superstar closed the regular season with 109 career qualified rides in PBR Teams competition and became the first rider to win three PBR Teams regular-season MVP titles.

Leme also set a new single-season riding percentage record, covering 29 of his 33 bulls for an extraordinary 87.88% success rate. The performance earned him the 2026 Great 8 Award and a $75,000 bonus.

He added another milestone in Kansas City, surpassing legendary Chris Shivers with his 95th career 90-point ride, the most in PBR history.

Now, the records take a back seat to the championship race.

After dominating the regular season, the Missouri Thunder enter Las Vegas as the No. 1 seed with a 24-11 record, finishing five games ahead of third-place Nashville.

Missouri held the top spot in the standings for seven consecutive weeks before officially securing the regular-season championship and a first-round bye.

But the Thunder have their sights set on something bigger.

In 2025, Missouri came painfully close to its first PBR Teams title before falling to the Carolina Cowboys in the championship game.

Now, with Rossetto at the helm of one of the league's deepest rosters, the Thunder have another opportunity to finish what they started.

And while Missouri's postseason position was secured well before the regular-season finale, the Thunder's final matchup against Nashville served as a reminder that nothing is guaranteed in Vegas.

Missouri fell to the Stampede in Kansas City, giving the No. 1 seed plenty to think about heading into Championship Weekend.

The Thunder have already proven they can dominate across an entire season. Now comes the challenge of turning that dominance into the franchise's first championship buckle.

If there's one team heading into Las Vegas with momentum, championship experience and a remarkably healthy roster, it's the Austin Gamblers.

The 2024 PBR Teams Champions finished the regular season 22-13, securing the No. 2 seed and a first-round bye.

Even more impressive? Austin enters Championship Weekend with zero riders on injured reserve.

In a sport where injuries can change a team's fortunes in a matter of seconds, that kind of depth and availability could prove invaluable.

And leading the charge is three-time PBR Teams MVP Leme, whose historic regular season included breaking Shivers' all-time 90-point ride record and claiming his third Teams MVP title.

But the Gamblers aren't just chasing another championship. They're chasing a league first.

Since the PBR Teams league began in 2022, four different franchises have lifted the championship buckle.

Nashville won the inaugural title in 2022, followed by Texas in 2023, Austin in 2024 and Carolina in 2025.

No team has ever won twice.

With a healthy roster, veteran leadership and one of the most accomplished bull riders in PBR history leading the way, Austin has an opportunity to become the first two-time champion in league history.

The Nashville Stampede have experienced just about every high and low imaginable this season.

Earlier in the year, Nashville was the team to beat, riding a hot winning streak that kept the Stampede atop the standings for consecutive weeks, including their own homestand.

But after dominating the first half of the season, things started to unravel down the stretch.

A late-season slump sent Nashville sliding down the standings, putting its once-comfortable position among the top three in jeopardy.

When it mattered most, however, the Stampede came charging back.

On the final day of Outlaw Days in Kansas City, Nashville defeated the regular-season champion Missouri Thunder, finishing 19-16 and tied with the Carolina Cowboys.

Thanks to the aggregate points tiebreaker, Nashville narrowly secured the No. 3 seed and the final first-round bye.

Now, the Stampede's all-Brazilian lineup gets an extra day to prepare before facing either the No. 4 Carolina Cowboys or No. 7 New York Mavericks on Saturday.

From leading the league to barely making the bye, Nashville has seen just about everything this season.

But with its place among the top three secured, the Stampede are hoping to carry that momentum all the way to their second championship trophy in franchise history.

While Missouri, Austin and Nashville can enjoy their first-round byes, three teams face an entirely different challenge.

The No. 8 Arizona Ridge Riders, No. 9 Florida Freedom and No. 10 Oklahoma Wildcatters will battle in Friday's three-team Play-In Game, with only one advancing into the championship bracket.

And despite their lower seeds, each team brings a compelling storyline to Las Vegas.

For Florida, the biggest question revolves around the potential return of reigning PBR World Champion John Crimber, who missed much of the Teams season with a groin injury.

When Crimber returns Friday night the Freedom could receive a major boost at exactly the right time.

And since Luciano de Castro was traded from Arizona to Florida, the Brazilian has been on a tear, helping the Freedom deliver one of their strongest performances of the season in Kansas City.

Florida went 4-for-5 against Carolina at Outlaw Days, scoring 356.45 points in a statement victory over the defending champions.

Oklahoma, meanwhile, faces a different challenge.

With Cort McFadden sidelined, the Wildcatters may have to rely on a newcomer to keep their championship hopes alive.

Brazilian Natanael Serra Aires, who joined Oklahoma late in the season, has already delivered a walk-off victory for the Wildcatters, proving he can handle the pressure when the game comes down to the final out.

Now, he could be called upon to deliver another season-saving performance in Las Vegas.

And Arizona shouldn't be overlooked.

The Ridge Riders finished ahead of both Florida and Oklahoma in the regular-season standings and have shown they can compete with the league's best.

But once the Play-In Game begins, regular-season records won't matter.

Three teams will enter. Only one will advance.

Beyond the Play-In Game, the opening round features two more matchups with plenty at stake.

The No. 4 Carolina Cowboys will face the No. 7 New York Mavericks, pairing the defending PBR Teams Champions against a franchise coming off its most successful regular season.

New York enters Vegas with more wins than ever before and its highest regular-season finish in franchise history.

The Mavericks now have an opportunity to turn that momentum into their deepest postseason run yet.

Meanwhile, the No. 5 Texas Rattlers will take on the No. 6 Kansas City Outlaws, with both teams looking to prove they can deliver when the pressure is highest.

And this year's championship format adds another challenge as the weekend progresses.

Friday and Saturday feature five-on-five competition, but Sunday's semifinals expand to six-on-six before the championship game becomes a seven-on-seven showdown.

That means teams won't just need five reliable riders to make a championship run.

They'll need healthy bodies, experienced veterans and the depth to deliver across an expanded lineup.

With four former champions hoping to become the first franchise to win twice, six other teams looking to write their own chapter in league history and an unforgiving bracket standing between them and the buckle, the 2026 PBR Teams Championship promises three days of high-stakes action in Las Vegas.
