Austin Gamblers
Sage Steele Kimzey has always been destined for greatness — even if his journey started in a one-stoplight Oklahoma town with more cattle than people. The Strong City native, now known across the sport as “The Professor” for his sharp focus and calculated mindset, is one of the most decorated cowboys of all time.
Born into a family of ranchers and rodeo competitors, Kimzey learned early that success would take more than talent — it would take relentless work. That drive earned him a full-ride rodeo scholarship to Southwestern Oklahoma State University, where he competed on the SWOSU rodeo team under coach Mike Visnieski, who helped refine the precision and mental discipline that still define Kimzey’s riding style today.
Once touted as the youngest millionaire in rodeo, Kimzey built his career on discipline, faith, and sheer will. A seven-time PRCA World Champion, he’s spent a lifetime chasing perfection — a pursuit that’s taken him from rodeo arenas across America to the No. 1 overall pick in the 2023 PBR Teams Draft. He led the Carolina Cowboys to a record-setting regular season and runner-up finish at the 2024 PBR Teams Championship, while also winning the 2024 PBR World Finals – Championship event.
His go-to coffee order is a Grande Vanilla Sweet Cream Nitro, and his road snack of choice is beef jerky from Buc-ee’s — peppered if he’s feeling spicy. In his gear bag, he carries a mustard seed — a reminder of Matthew 17:20, which teaches that even a tiny amount of faith can accomplish great things because its power comes from God, not the believer. That verse grounds Kimzey’s focus on quality over quantity — in both his rides and his faith.
A devoted husband and father, Kimzey’s first date with wife Alexis was at a Cody Johnson concert, and his favorite CoJo song is “With You I Am.” He credits his wife, Don Gay, and his college coach for shaping both his mindset and his drive. Whether in the chutes or the gym, he rides with precision, purpose, and the quiet confidence of a cowboy who studies every detail.
