Austin Gamblers defeat hometown Texas Rattlers during Land.com Texas Cup showdown on Day 2 of PBR Teams: Rattler Days

No. 1 Missouri Thunder edge No. 2 Nashville Stampede to gain two-game advantage atop PBR Teams standings.

By James Youness

FORT WORTH, TEXAS – The Austin Gamblers (15-10) rode three bulls to defeat the hometown Texas Rattlers (13-12) 265.20-87.85 during the second night of PBR Teams: Rattler Days presented by Germania Insurance at Dickies Arena Saturday.

Meantime, as the playoff race heats up, the No. 1 Missouri Thunder (18-7) defended their spot atop the PBR Teams standings Saturday by defeating the No. 2 Nashville Stampede (16-9) by less than two points, 174.45-172.70, to move two games in front of the Stampede in the league standings.

The Land.com Texas Cup matchup between the Lone Star State rivals featured an early 90-point conversion from Austin’s veteran Sage Steele Kimzey (Strong City, Oklahoma) on Bowser during the opening out of the game. 2018 PBR World Champion Kaique Pacheco (Itatiba, Brazil) doubled down for the Gamblers shortly after, scored 89.70 points aboard Woody to earn the Gamblers a two-score lead.

A bottom-of-the-first conversion from Brady Fielder (Clermont, Australia) would turn out to be the only score for the hometown contingent, while Dalton Kasel (Muleshoe, Texas) added a third score for the Gamblers in the fourth to cement Austin’s win over their in-state rivals. The Gamblers have won four straight.

In the Missouri’s win over Nashville, Gustavo Luiz da Silva (Inocência, Brazil) and Rogério Venâncio (Paranaita, Brazil) got the Stampede off to a hot start, with scores in the first and third, respectively. But PBR Teams MVP contender Paulo Eduardo Rossetto (Colorado, Brazil) got his Thunder on the board during Missouri’s first out to thwart Nashville’s momentum. Macaulie Leather (Calliope, Australia) provided crucial support later in the contest with 85.85 points on Train Robber, which proved to be the game-winning ride.

The Arizona Ridge Riders (11-14) defeated the Florida Freedom (10-15) 89.35-86.65 in Saturday’s fourth game. Murilo Henrique de Oliveira (Pereira Barreto, Brazil) recorded his first ride with the Freedom after being acquired by Florida via trade earlier in the week. Matching Bex Red Eye step for step, Oliveira logged the first score of the game, granting Arizona an early advantage. However, Everton Natan da Silva (Viradouro, Brazil) remained red-hot and took advantage of a re-ride opportunity aboard Glitch to recapture the lead for Arizona, scored 89.35 points. Following a lengthy stretch of re-rides and challenges, Silva’s ride was the game-winner.

The Carolina Cowboys (15-10) rode four bulls to defeat the Kansas City Outlaws (9-16) courtesy of a dominant 4-for-5 performance at Dickies Arena. Thiago Salgado (Naviraí, Brazil) went the distance during the first out of the night, scored 88.60 points on Easy Come, Easy Go for the Cowboys’ early lead. His teammate Guilherme Valleiras (Pirassununga, Brazil) added 87.75 points on Feel the Magic to advance Carolina to 2-for-2. Staying perfect to start Game 1, 20-year-old Clay Guiton (Cherryville, North Carolina) snapped a six-out buckoff streak with a big 89.25-point conversion aboard Benjamin Ranklin.

With the game already decided, two-time PBR World Champion Jess Lockwood (Volborg, Montana) saved the best for last, closing out Carolina’s high-scoring night with an epic, PBR Teams season-high 93.90-point ride on Lights Out.

“When Kansas City bucked off, Coop (Cooper Davis) said, ‘Hey we’re putting Ethan on,’” Lockwood said on the Paramount+ broadcast following his ride. “Excuse my language, I said, ‘Like hell you are. I’m ridin’ this bull. I’m gonna be a pile of points.’ I know after I said that it was time to back it up. Got the job done and stayed healthy and safe. Praise God.”

Kansas City’s only score came in the third when Eric Henrique Domingos (Pérola, Brazil) recorded 88.75-points on Enter Sandman – Domingos’ fifth consecutive ride.

The revitalized New York Mavericks (9-16) defeated the Oklahoma Wildcatters (9-16) by one bull score Saturday night, 170.65-88.75. Eduardo Matos (Emilianópolis, Brazil) got the Wildcatters on the board first Saturday, besting Dirty Honey for 88.75 points, but New York’s Hudson Bolton (Milan, Tennessee) instantly responded with a strike of his own, scored 88.70 points on The HONDO to keep the excitement brewing. Bob Mitchell (Steelville, Missouri) continued the Mavericks’ momentum with an 81.95-point ride atop Tigger to advance New York to a 2-for-2 start and serve as the game-winning ride.

The final day of PBR Teams: Rattler Days presented by Germania Insurance at Dickies Arena concludes Sunday, Oct. 4 at 1:45 p.m. CT. All five games on Sunday will air live at 2 p.m. CT on the CW. Tickets are available to purchase at ticketmaster.com and PBR.com.
