GREENSBORO, N.C. – Following the opening night of PBR Teams: Cowboy Days presented by Patriot Mobile competition at First Horizon Coliseum, the Missouri Thunder and Nashville Stampede remain atop the PBR Teams standings, improving to league-best 15-6 records courtesy of respective game wins Friday.
The Thunder defeated the Austin Gamblers (11-10) 262.30-176.25 in Game 3 as the Top 2-ranked cowboys in the PBR Teams MVP race took center stage, while the Stampede (15-6) defeated the Texas Rattlers (11-10) in a close 87.60-86 Game 4 decision.
Paulo Eduardo Rossetto (Colorado, Brazil) remained red-hot in his lead-off position for Missouri while making PBR Teams history with his record-setting 14th-consecutive qualified ride. Besting UB Smooth for 87.85 points, Rossetto climbed to the top of the MVP race. However, three-time PBR World Champion Jose Vitor Leme (Ribas do Rio Pardo, Brazil), who set the previous record for consecutive rides in PBR Teams with 13-straight qualified rides two weeks ago, immediately answered back in the bottom of the opening frame with an 87.05-point conversion on White Out to reclaim the top spot in the individual aggregate rankings and get the Gamblers on the board.
Julio Cesar Marques (Tatuí, Brazil) went the distance atop Hoobastank (86.35) to make it two-straight for Missouri, while Maverick Smith (Cabool, Missouri) capped off the Thunder’s 3-for-5 showcase with an 8-second effort atop Enter Sandman (88.1) in the fifth. Dalton Kasel (Muleshoe, Texas) provided a late re-ride conversion on Bullistic (89.2 points) for the Gamblers, but the Thunder won the game by one ride score for their fourth-straight victory.
Each of the lead-off riders in Game 4 went the distance, with Brady Fielder (Clermont, Australia) making the 8 for the Rattlers (86) and Alan de Souza (Tremembé, Brazil) responding with a conversion for the Stampede (87.6). But with the game’s final eight riders bucking off their bulls, the bovine athletes stole the headlines in Friday’s penultimate showdown. Nashville earned their fourth-straight win to remain tied with the Thunder atop the league standings.
The hometown Carolina Cowboys (13-8) rode three bulls, defeating the Oklahoma Wildcatters (8-13) on home dirt to begin the team’s three-day homestand in the winner’s circle.
The Cowboys and Wildcatters were nearly even on the scoreboard after the opening frame. Oklahoma’s Eduardo Matos(Emilianópolis, Brazil) recorded an 87.6-pointer to begin the game but was briefly one-upped by .05 points, as Thiago Salgado (Naviraí, Brazil) was scored 87.65 for his 8-second effort atop Hoka Hey to round out the first.
Making his PBR Teams debut, rookie Ethan Skogquist (Elk River, Minnesota) turned in an 86.4-point conversion for the hometown Cowboys in the bottom of the fourth to cushion Carolina’s lead by a ride score. Adriano Salgado added the cherry on top during the fifth (87.25) to solidify the 261.30-87.60 victory.
The Kansas City Outlaws (7-14) ditched a seven-game losing streak in a 351.15-89.35 victory over the Arizona Ridge Riders (10-11) to open the event in Greensboro. The Outlaws wasted no time getting the action started in Game 1, as Sandro Batista (Pedra Preta, Brazil) began the Outlaws’ furious 4-for-5 run with an 88.05-point ride aboard Political Cowboy before Eric Henrique Domingos (Pérola, Brazil) recorded a career-best 89.5 atop Without Warning.
Boston Leather (Calliope, Australia) made it three-straight for Kansas City in the third with 86.15 points aboard Snake Eyes, while Koltin Hevalow (McAlester, Oklahoma) extended the Outlaws’ run to four with a conversion aboard Velvet Revolver (87.45). 2024 PBR World Champion Cassio Dias nearly completed the perfect game but was sent to the dirt in 6.38 seconds. Eduardo Aparecido (Gouvelandia, Brazil) went the distance atop Freedom Fighter (89.35) during a re-ride attempt as Arizona went 1-for-5.
Following a scoreless four frames, Marco Rizzo (Quitman, Georgia) provided the New York Mavericks (6-15) a clutch qualified ride atop High Caliber in the top of the fifth to clinch an 88.75-0 victory for New York over the Florida Freedom (9-12). The Mavericks have won two-straight matchups against their rival Freedom and bring a two-game winning streak into Saturday’s slate of games.
The second day of PBR Teams: Cowboy Days presented by Patriot Mobile at First Horizon Coliseum resumes Saturday, Sept. 19 at 7:15 p.m. ET. All five games on Saturday will air live at 7:30 p.m. ET on The CW.
