Key Storylines

Rattler Days marks the beginning of the final four-event stretch of the PBR Teams regular season. After Fort Worth, only Ridge Rider Days, Maverick Days and Outlaw Days remain before the PBR Teams Championship in Las Vegas, making every win increasingly important as the postseason picture begins to take shape.

Missouri and Nashville enter the weekend tied atop the standings, while Carolina, Austin and Texas continue trying to gain ground behind them. At this point in the season, one strong weekend can change the order quickly, and every loss has the potential to impact Championship seeding.

For Texas, few games will carry more weight than Saturday’s latest chapter of the Land.com Texas Cup against the Austin Gamblers. The Rattlers bring a 2-0 advantage in the rivalry series after beating Austin twice already this season, but the Gamblers enter the weekend one game ahead of Texas in the standings.

The Texas Cup is awarded immediately once a team clinches the season series, giving the Rattlers an opportunity to secure the trophy on home dirt at Dickies Arena while Austin looks to keep the rivalry alive and protect its position in the standings.

Texas also brings Brady Fielder into Fort Worth sitting No. 3 in the MVP race and firmly established as one of the Rattlers’ most reliable weapons. Qynn Andersen and Josh Frost are both expected to begin making their way back into the Teams mix after spending time on the PRCA trail.

The Rattlers are also managing several significant injuries. Claudio Montanha Jr. has been sidelined since suffering a pelvic injury at the season-opening event in Oklahoma that required pins and a plate, along with a lacerated bladder. Lucas Divino was backboarded Friday in Greensboro after a bull two-stepped on his face, breaking a bone and causing lacerations that required stitches. He underwent a follow-up surgery Monday involving his nasal cavity.

Austin has its own momentum, with Jose Vitor Leme continuing to lead the MVP standings after covering 20 of his 23 bulls this season. Dalton Kasel has also begun turning a corner after switching to new Brazilian ropes before the World Finals, giving the Gamblers another weapon as the regular season winds down.

Missouri enters Fort Worth tied atop the standings and could have another Rossetto available. Angelo Junior Lopes Rossetto, brother of MVP contender and new father Paulo Eduardo Rossetto, is cleared to compete after securing his visa. Paulo remains right behind Leme in the MVP race and returns to competition after recently welcoming a new baby and being humbled on his first bull back at Thunder practice.

Felipe Furlan also arrives in Fort Worth coming off an ABBI Classic win, while Macaulie Leather remains one of Missouri’s biggest scoring threats.

That could make Sunday’s Show-Me State Showdown even more interesting. Kansas City’s Boston Leather, who previously rode for Missouri, could find himself opposite his brother Macaulie when the Thunder and Outlaws meet. Whether both brothers crack the starting five will depend on the bull pen and how each team builds its lineup, but the possibility of brother-on-brother action adds another layer to the rivalry.

Kansas City has also picked up Bruno Carvalho, who previously served as Florida’s closer. Hayden Welsh is another familiar face expected to make his way back into the Outlaws’ Teams mix after time on the rodeo trail. The Outlaws are also managing injuries to Koltin Hevalow, who is recovering from a broken femur, and Cassio Dias, who has been dealing with a groin injury following a wreck in Greensboro.

Florida, meanwhile, expects Yan Victor Cunha back from Brazil after he dealt with a groin injury and got on one bull there before returning. With Cunha healthy again, he has reclaimed his role for the Freedom, opening the door for Carvalho to join Kansas City.

John Crimber is also expected back in Florida’s Teams mix after time on the PRCA trail, while Austin Richardson arrives in Fort Worth newly engaged. The Freedom have also acquired Murilo Henrique de Oliveira in a trade involving Wingson Henrique da Silva, who has been dealing with a leg injury.

Nashville enters Fort Worth tied with Missouri atop the standings and has added Alisson de Souza, twin brother of Alan de Souza, giving the Stampede another familiar name and, they hope, double the consistency from the De Souzas.

Oklahoma could also see reinforcements. Renan Almeida Alves recently arrived back in the United States and could make his first out for the Wildcatters on Friday. Brock Poulin and Jack Mitchell have both been working through wrist issues, with Brock tweaking his wrist in the chute in North Carolina and Jack needing to clear concussion protocol after taking a hit at the Wildcatters event this past weekend. Both have been taping their wrists differently as they work back toward full strength.

Trace Redd was also stepped on in North Carolina and injured his upper leg, giving Oklahoma another health situation to monitor. Poulin, meanwhile, will continue being tested against bulls such as Cherry Shot, the kind of matchup that can show exactly where a young rider stands against some of the league’s best.

New York will get Hudson Bolton back after his stint on the PRCA trail and emergency surgery to repair a broken jaw. And don’t worry, Marco Rizzo is not being replaced by Bolton and is not injured. He is simply out of Friday’s draw and is expected to return Saturday night for the New York concrete cowboys.

With rivalry trophies in play, key riders returning, rosters shifting, injuries affecting lineup decisions and an MVP race with almost no breathing room, Rattler Days arrives with plenty on the line.
