Key Storylines
Three regular-season events remain, and the stretch run to Las Vegas is starting to get crowded.
The biggest change entering Glendale comes in Oklahoma.
The Wildcatters will compete in their first game since parting ways with head coach Greg Rhodes, whose tenure lasted roughly nine weeks. With Oklahoma sitting in last place, assistant coach and former PBR judge Shawn Ramirez now finds himself steering the ship as the Wildcatters try to change course before time runs out on the regular season.
On the other side of the bottom of the standings, the New York Mavericks may finally be catching a heater.
New York nearly completed the second perfect game in franchise history Sunday in Fort Worth, opening 4-for-4 before the streak ended in the fifth. Almost only counts in tiddlywinks and horseshoes, but the timing is hard to ignore.
The Mavericks’ first perfect game came almost exactly one year ago at Ridge Rider Days, and now they return to Glendale with Hudson Bolton back in the lineup and looking every bit as confident as he did while pointing toward his team from the back of the bull in Fort Worth. New York is trying to turn that momentum into a sprint through the stretch run to Las Vegas.
Jose Vitor Leme has some history of his own within reach.
The three-time PBR World Champion enters Glendale sitting one 90-point ride away from tying Chris Shivers’ Premier Series record of 94. Leme nearly got there Sunday in Fort Worth, missing the mark by the skin of his teeth with 89.60 points aboard Husky.
The Austin Gamblers are surging right along with him. Austin swept Rattler Days, won its fifth straight game and jumped into second place behind the Missouri Thunder, putting even more pressure on the teams trying to keep pace near the top.
That includes the Nashville Stampede, who may still have an ace up their sleeve.
Nashville has new talent on the way from Brazil, and it is not Alisson de Souza, twin brother of Alan de Souza. As the Stampede try to reel in Missouri and now Austin, another potential addition could provide a late-season boost at exactly the right time.
The Arizona Ridge Riders return home hoping a new face can quickly become a hometown favorite.
Recently acquired Cody Jesus joins Arizona as the Ridge Riders return to Navajo territory for their regular-season homestand at Desert Diamond Arena. With the Championship drawing closer, Arizona will look to use home dirt to build momentum before Las Vegas.
The Florida Freedom, meanwhile, arrive in Glendale slightly reeling on the injury front.
John Crimber remains sidelined with a groin injury, while Austin Richardson is dealing with an MCL injury, leaving Florida to navigate the stretch run without two important pieces fully available.
With the standings tightening, history within reach and key roster questions still unfolding, Ridge Rider Days could reshape the road to Las Vegas.
